Oh quit your whinging Santa, we all know spending over 120m and finishing 5th place, being bundled out of the CL by European "powerhouses" Basel and Ludogorets, while also being bundled out of the FA cup by the powerhouse that is Aston Villa is a perfectly acceptable season.

Stop your complaining Brendan has it all "under control" for next season.

All hail Brendan. Don't look directly at him. It's like the Lost Arc.
It makes me chuckle to think of Rodger's, this supposed next great manager, and how all of these issues swirl around him whilst he stands helpless to effect anything. Surely we all know that's not really the case. He's the manager. If not, then what is he? I can only think of one of two things.

A) He's our manager and is responsible for creating a team on an agreed budget and using his managerial skills to take us back to the top.

B) He's a figurehead. The man with the tan and the shining teeth in place to smile for the cameras and bear the brunt of decisions made by the committee and board and is actually not much to do with things at all.

If it's A, then I think he's failed and we need a new manager. If it's B, he's doing cracking job but we need a new board who will get rid of the committee and employ a real manager.

I started supporting Liverpool Football CLUB soon after Bill Shakily became manager. He is probably as good a reason as any to sing YNWA at the beginning and the end of every match. We are a CLUB !! We are not one player. We are not one manager. We are a club and a team and that is what I fundamentally believe and support. I am not a spoilt brat. I have seen Liverpool win 5 European Cups and a shed load of titles. The last 25 years have been littered with frustration. Rafa had his share of good luck when he won the CL and it is reasonable to say that Rogers had his share of bad luck when we failed to win the league last season. Yes there are a lot of things we could have done differently and hindsight as the WHINGE COMMITTEE well know is an exact science. Did anybody have the vision or foresight when things went badly wrong early in the season to start playing three at the back which worked very well for us and we went on a successful run. 27 points from 33 I seem to remember. But lets just forget all that and castigate Rogers for his tactics when things don't work out. I'm not his greatest fan but you won't see me stooping to the level of criticism that some of you rate as acceptable. As I said I support the CLUB

If you have a gangrene leg, hard as it might be but you'll need to cut it off before it kills the body. Support the club but if there are any dysfunctional parts, then we need to get rid of promptly so the club can have a chance to prosper, or would you rather we stay and sink with a clueless captain at the rudder?  ???

The feeding frenzy won't stop until BR goes, the donkey jackets are in full flow.

I notice that Abramovich has officially passed the 1 BILLION pound non repayable loan mark this week.

So, unimaginable financial resources together with a dream squad leads to success. Mourinho was lucky because BR 'threw' the league away due to his incompetence. Mourinho probably still suffers from nightmares.

Eds, I've afraid my taleban comment went over your head, the risk you take when using subtlety in the wrong context. Won't do it again.

I am a bit baffled by this thread.

When I looked at the league table before we where 5th.
It is the position we will most likely finish in.

Since we last won the league and during the premier league era our average position (correct me if I am wronng) is 6th or 7th.

So we are likely to finish in a stronger position than we usually would.

Now the negatives.

We almost won the league last season and have dropped from 2nd to 5th in one season.
We have been shambolic in europe and blew the FA cup semi final against a side we should have been beating.

That doesnt look or sound good, and I am not happy about it.
Do I think Rodgers is a fraud and needs sacking though ?
No.
There have been mitigating circumstances though.
We lost our best player to Barca and then lost our other main source of goals to injury for virtually the whole season.
With Sturridge fit I have no doubts we would have made the top 4.
We can be critical of leaving the squad with the striking options we had but I honestly believe that signing a top draw striker would not have been easy for the manager and the board.
A season coming 5th and getting to semis of both the domestic cups is below what we wanted or expected at the start of the season.
But lets be realistic it is not catastrophic.
I think the manager deserves another season.
If we can bring in the attacking players we need we have every chance of getting back amongst the top - given we are not a million miles away even now.
In this league for me you need goals and to attack sides. We have not had these and dropped an awful lot of points against sides that we wouldnt have if we had had the at least 1 fit top end striker.
Rodgers has shown last season and in the second half of the season before that with quality attacking players he can set the side up to demolish the majority of sides in the Premiership.
That's the aim for next season for me.
