STEVEN GERRARD - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

he played well today but he always does when we are dominating, the question marks about gerrards game these days revolve around his input when we arent on top.
i added the caveat `these days` into that sentence because as we all know gerrards party trick years ago used to be turning around games that were going away from us.

Do you not think we dominated because he played well, rather than the other way round?

I know yourself and red lucasgoggles don't rate Steven anymore but these are the type of performances you'll miss out on if you play the likes of Allen, Henderson and Lucas instead.

For what its worth... I agree with your sentiments that he's not a great player anymore and we do need to look at replacing him. But I also think you're undervaluing him still as he is still an awful lot better than the other options we have in central midfield.

Its a real head scratcher with Gerrard.  One minute he stinks the place out and I think he needs to be dropped.
Then he has a magical performance and looks the real deal.

I agree somewhat.

I still think Gerrard has an impact to the team, both from a performance perspective and an influential perspective. The problem Gerrard has is his age means consecutive games diminishes his value to the team. As some have already said he needs rest (ideally against weak sides at home) to remain effective.

Regarding Henderson, from what I have seen it is not a case of instead of Gerrard but with Gerrard that brings out the best in Henderson. When they play together Henderson benefits enormously, as does Gerrard for that matter. Henderson's work ethic allows Gerrard more freedom to dictate. Lucas offers a similar role but with less mobility, his effectiveness is shown where we need a deep lying defensive midfielder to neutralise an opposition CAM who has freedom to roam.

Lets not fill our little bills with smeg just yet Stu ,Gerrard was playing against possibly the most powder puff midfield in the premiership ,its when he plays
a team with a combative midfield he tends to not fancy the idea. Against Fulham he looked good ,but he was granted the freedom of the pitch from a piss
poor team that have Championship fodder stamped right through them..... Lucasgoggles has spoken.  :D

You're making it sound like he's only had one good game this season. Against United, Stoke and Villa he was simply head and shoulders above the rest.

You're entitled to your opinion... but you're wrong. :D

Didn't he play well for ninety minutes against Poland who were anything but pi.ss poor. Maybe my eyes deceived me. To be fair I was 20 yards from the pitch and most bits of my body including my sight (me Mum did warn me) aren't quite what they used to be  :(
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

I wouldn't know mate ,part of this argument is based on the contrast between the effort and application he expends for his country as opposed to what he
currently affords his club.....Gerrard's energy in the second half of games ( albeit from Fulham) seems to dissipate more rapidly than steam.

West Brom were ok and Gerrard was excellent for most of the game. I know what you're saying but I'm not entirely sure how we rectify the problem. Taking him off when he is MOTM and were winning 4-0 is an easy decision. If we're not doing to well then the solution is considerably more difficult especially in the short term.

Postby red till i die!! » Fri Nov 15, 2013 5:09 pm

the mirror is reporting that he is undergoing a series of pain killing injections in order to be fit for the german game  :wwww
the club has consented to this  :veryangry
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... bs-2788939

thats a load of shabite imo and if he isnt 100% fit then no way should the club allow him to do it. he's our player and he shouldnt be risked in a nothing game for england especially when we have a massive game straight after. id understand if it was a qualifier but it isnt.
if he is carrying an injury then that would explain his indifferent performances this season which again leads to the question on why they would allow him to do this knowing he isnt 100%.

England captain he may be but I just wish he'd drop out of the pointless international friendlies in the build up to next years world cup.

His ticket to the world cup finals is assured, come on Stevie mug the friendlies off and keep yourself fit for Liverpools' tilt at getting back onto Europe's top table plus the way we're going an outside chance of picking up a premier league winners medal.

Remember he is going for caps as well, as I remember if he played every match until after the WC he will have some kind of record.
