STEVEN GERRARD - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

there`s still a role for gerrard at the club but the manager should be dragging him off if we are clearly getting over run in the middle (like today).
imo rodgers should have brought allen on. you can bet your bottom dollar that if that was united out there today and it was scholes (or giggs) in gerrards shoes ferguson would have well ragged him off.
obviously the temptation for a manager is to leave him on because he has the ability to conjure up a bit of magic but the truth is those bits of magic are becoming rarer and rarer.
there are games like last week where gerrard is an asset but at 33 its just a fact of life that there are also going to be games where he is a liability, today was one of those games.
the quicker rodgers stops making gerrard un-droppable or un-sub-able the sooner we can move on as a club, we can then try to utilize gerrard the best we can.

Your beloved Lucas wasn't as good either, we should drop him too

Well if you had bothered your arse to view my comments in the match thread you would have clearly fucking  seen how
I stated Lucas was poor.....Still if you had ,your rapier like retort would have carried less weight.

I will look into your comments thank you for letting me know :D

he just plodded about today and basically stank the place out, not good enough from the captain.
rodgers needs to make a decision on either benching him or changing his role because he is struggling.

Looks dead on his feet to me Gerrard and Rodgers needs to be strong enough to leave him out the odd game now.

Hes slow as fook and his legs have gone. Needs a rest minimum and if we had the money replacing altogether as a regular
starter really.

Legend, but every dog has its day and he's not had the luxury of rest time during his career like some other older players
still performing (the odd game) at the top level.

Ironically I can see him pulling out all the stops for England in world cup year as a last hurrah, but week in week out for
Liverpool definitely a no for me now.

I think Rodgers is not strong enough to make that decision yet. He is a new young manager... Gerrard is a liverpool legend who has been at the club for decades...

he was not dead on his feet, he was just marked out of the game by a good side, it happens sometimes

Played very well against West Brom and for best part of 90 minutes. That was probably his best game this season. Arsenal was probably his worst game but I don't know what the answer is with what we have available.

Someone of twitter has mentioned that yesterday both Toure and Sahko made more forwards runs than Gerrard

We are getting over run because of other players as well though. This is what frustrates me, you're blaming it all on Gerrard.

Its partially Gerrard, the system and other 10 players in the first 11. At times you've pointed it out to be all Gerrard's fault, it isn't, its a mixture of things.

It has apparently been confirmed that Gerrard will miss the match vs Fulham because of a small injury. Honestly, I don't think that there could have been a better time for this to happen. We really need to try out something different with that midfield of ours and despite the fact that we really need those points, I think that Fulham at home is the perfect game for this. Hope Brendan makes the most of it.

I expect even without Gerrard the system/formation will remain the same.

You essentially get a Lucas-Henderson pairing instead of Lucas-Gerrard or Henderson-Gerrard combo. Countinho goes straight back in as the CAM.

I was thinking exactly the same. This is probably what BR will go for, unfortunately. It's probably the best option but I would have liked to give Allen or Alberto a chance.

If either of Johnson or Enrique are unavailable though, I would put Henderson at RWB. I know that he didn't look too good when he played there against Sunderland, but he's exactly the type of player that needs to play as a wing-back in the 3-5-2 formation, so I would give him another chance.

i think we need to get back to a back 4, we need that extra player higher up the pitch not sitting in our back line, especially at home against a team we should be beating.
with gerrard out and by reverting to a 4 we can squeeze someone like moses, sterling or alberto into the line up to help the front guys.
