PEPE REINA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

assuming we start the season with the 2 of them still at the club (which i dont think will happen), mingolet is going to be our keeper in the long term so i`d start with him, the only reason reina is still here is because barcelona havent bid for him yet. as soon as a bid arrives reina will have his bags packed and be down at john lennon airport before liverpool even have a chance to reply.
he very nearly left to go to arsenal a couple of seasons ago so he`s had itchy feet for a while, start with the keeper that wants to stay here.

If both still at the club then Pepe is still number one and will be in goal

If the Barcelona move isn't on if doesn't happen then Pepe will not want to be benched, cue a return to his best in an effort to keep his place

What do you think?

As Benny said, if Pepe is still here he'll still be #1.  But you can be damned sure there will be a fire lit under his a.ss to keep that status.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I doubt Mignolet would sign unless there were assurances that he'd be number 1 regardless of whether Reina stays or goes. He's already said his wish to leave Sunderland is to enhance his chances of playing for Belgium in the world cup so he's not leaving to warm the bench somewhere.

In fact we've only agreed a fee for him, he hasn't agreed personal terms as he's been on holiday.  This one's not signed and sealed yet, don't think wages will be an issue but first team football might be if he's not given assurances.

I find it hard to believe FSG would shell out £11m for someone who can only play one position
to warm the bench, or alternitavely have Reina contributing no playing time whilst at the top
end of their pay scale.

Doesn't sound like the way we operate at all and especially in the goalkeeping position.

But he likes to have his opinion treated as gospel.

Of course it's my opinion - lets not create something out of nothing.

I totally agree which is why I believe Barca will come in with a 5 million bid late on and we have no choice but to accept.

Cant see anything other than Mignolet is coming Liverpool to play in goal and Reina will be
our cup and sub replacement.

Football waits for no one, and despite a couple of good games towards the end of the
season Reina was possibly one of worst keepers in the division, and at times looked he was
shot to pieces, an accident waiting to happen and delivering.

You are only as good as your last campaign and despite easily being in the top 3 keepers in
this league, if not the best 3 years ago, Reina has declined quite rapidly in the last 18 months.

At this point there must be at least half a dozen keepers in the Prem better than him and that's
being generous to a good servant, and clearly they see Mignolet as an important upgrade.

Pepe earning 100,000/week on the bench?
Sounds like the new lfc way...not.
Which is why we will almost be forced to give him away.
