Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Bringing in Rodgers will prove the right decision in the end. His first season and we were bound to have blips here and there as we are a team in transition but we are not far off IMO. Squad is already looking better and more importantly style of play is coming together. This summer will be huge for us and a real opportunity to put a squad together than can challenge for the top four next season. This season was always too soon and there's too much of a gap and also we are chasing 4 teams and all four are not going to have a collapse towards the end.
I love Kenny but for me it was quite obvious things were going pear shaped under him last season and it would have been a massive shame if that continued this season and wouldn't want that for him as the man is and will always be a legend. The game has moved on since his day and managers like Rodger's are a new breed and we needed to to get with the times or I really feared we would fall even further back

What a stat: Liverpool's last six Premier League wins: 4-0, 5-0, 5-0, 3-0, 3-0, 4-0.

Now we just need less losses and we'll be cruisin'

Agree on a new defender....we are crying out for a commanding center back to sort out set pieces.

If Martin Kelly can stay fit in the future do we need to buy anyone? He could play in the middle with Agger.

I like Kelly, but would be really happynif we signed a commanding centreback. We've never replaced Sammi and it should be top of BR shopping list, along with another winger and left back

maybe even two if we are looking to get rid of skrtel. we also need a left back as for me enrique is better further up the pitch.

Truth be told, Im not fussed if Skrtel stays or goes. Was very disappointed by his whining to the press the other day.

Another left back to cover for Enrique looks likely given Wisdom's inexperience and that Robinson looked uncomfortable at Oldham. Not sure about another winger with this formation especially since Assaidi hasn't started a premiership game yet.

I think another creative attacking player who can also play up front and score goals would be useful though. In squad terms at the moment we don't have the cover over a run of games for Suarez and Sturridge nor the capacity to rotate as evidenced at Oldham.

i`m not saying it`s perfect by any means and there are plenty of heart in mouth moments like for instance when when we start passing it around the back as the opposition press us, but in general i`d say we seem to have more control of games under rodgers.
i know rodgers cops a bit of flak for our inconsistency but in truth that word has been a millstone around every liverpool manager`s neck since kenny`s first spell, and if the likes of roy evans, gerrard houllier and rafa benitez never really got to grips with it (despite some good spells) over 15 years it`s a bit unrealistic to expect rodgers to sort it out in 7 months.
rodgers has done well to salvage a terrible first half of the season (which might have sunk many other managers) but i think his biggest challenge is yet to come, infact it comes after the season ends, if he can convince luis suarez to stay then i think the sky is the limit, i really do, because sturridge and suarez look as good as anything in the country to me, but if luis leaves i really dont know where we go from there, i really dont.

Exactly, there is no doubting that things are picking up.

But to say we are MILES off from where we were last season is just plain daft.

Looks like "fans" can't remember beyond a few games, under Kenny we just couldn't put the ball away and then caved in to an eventual goal from the opposition.

Maybe things would have been different if we had bought Sturridge instead of Carroll. Maybe Kenny would still be here. Anyways enough of the what ifs, lets try and finish the season on high.

So far, BR's 2 transfers in January have been a real shot in the arm for the team. Sturridge and Suarez together can cause a real havoc to any defence. Now we have Coutinho who is really on another level compared to Sterling and Suso. Sterling and Suso looks like really good potential but maybe not quite there yet whereas Coutinho looks like a real first team player with great potential. Good job by BR on those two transfers and instilled some confidence in the fans that he could really build a team to challenge for the title next season. One interesting thing is that BR seems to have a criteria of high workrate for players. Both Sturridge and Coutinho have high workrates and long may it continue.

Shankly took 3 seasons to get it right
Rodgers deserves the same patience

You're right but the Shanks era were before the CL and oil tycoon and sheikh ownership. Today, star players (forget about the few exceptions) only come to you if you have CL football and pay them insane weekly wages that will take the average person one generation of hard work to earn. At the moment we do not have both. So Brendan will probably take much much longer if he can be as good as Shanks and that is if he hadn't been fired before it happens.

I think as an attacking force we are pretty much as good as we have been for several seasons now, but we definatley need a proper experienced Center Back.  I really hope we splash the cash on someone who is an established CB with Champions League experience to replace MS and form a partnership with Dagger.

Skrtel has realistically had one good season and for me this year he is looking dodgy again.. and you dont moan to the press when your not getting games!!

Not sure who I think we should get.. any suggestions?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
