Interesting. I disagree of course. And the January thing is not the first time that he has made statements which are then later followed by actions or statements which are completely opposite. I hadn't realized it was not obvious to all..... but then not everyone has the same level of savvy, maturity or quotient of intelligence I suppose.
After what happened at the last day of the last transfer window, who can blame him? It's about time people stopped making mountains out of molehills with regards to BR's comments. It's about time you realize that this is a rebuilding period, and he's certainly going in the right direction. He is having to play two 17 year olds in Sterling and Suso because we failed to bring in a wide forward that he wanted. He is having to deal with injury to Lucas who is crucial to his plan to play 1 anchoring midfielder and 2 more foward CM's. Maybe he himself is not sure whether the owners will back him properly in January again. Maybe he is sending a message to the owners. At least bigmick gave Benitez 3 years or so before scrutinizing every little action of his. You people are doing it after 6 months to BR? Get a grip and support the manager... by all means criticize him for playing Downing at LB but blowing up the things he say in the press is getting beyond ridiculous. It's not as if Kenny talked very little to the press. No criticisms there as I recalled. The rebuilding will continue and it will be at least the start of next season that we start seeing BR's set up as he wants it to be.
Indeed.

I have no issues with him trying to put his mark on the team and getting us playing the way he envisions football needs to be played. That is a given and any manager worth their salt will have their own views on how best that should be done. Regardless of the fact that I've disagreed with some of his footballing choices, I have no gripes with that aspect of his work........ yet. He will live and die (or triumph) by his methods and I can respect that... especially if he proves to be man enough to change his thought processes should they not be working.
My problem with him is his mouth when addressing the media. He needs to be sure of what he is saying before he makes a fool of himself with the "mixed messages" he sends. By all means, talk to the press.... but if he's to be taken seriously, he needs to be backing that up with consistency and action. Running his gob off won't do this club any good. Rafa Benitez is a classic testament to that.
He has not yet proven that he can indeed manage at this level. All eyes are on him as a relative newbie managing a HUGE club. It isn't helped by the fact that the press are watching all of the Special One's so called proteges to see how they perform. Very newsworthy when one falls.... especially so if it happens at a club of our calibre.
Concentrate on the job at hand and learn from the traditions at the club of past managers keeping things close to heart and only letting on what is absolutely necessary to be shared. As the saying goes, an empty vessel makes the most noise. For his sake and more importantly, the club's sake, I hope his barrel is properly filled with quality. Until that is proven, he should be wary of what he says. Action speaks louder than words..... by now BR should know that.
