Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Whilst I agree with everything you say about Rafa he broke my heart with his ways
His revolving door transfer policy, his strange team selections, his constantly playing people out of position, his arrogance and stubborness. He could have been a great manager and took us back to where we belonged but finally lost the plot and had to go.
If only...

Kenny bless him wasnt the best at PR was he? :D

As for this i dont care how bad he does *****, You saying we should have kept the owl? I mean that would be stability in a nut shell!

Rodgers has proved nothing other than he can get 1 team to play nice football and win a few big games. Face facts swansea came to the Prem via the playoffs? They didnt win the league. Once here they had one good season.

Im not saying he cant do it but i will be dammed if im going to stand on a box and call him the next "Rafa. Shanks" ect. The huge build up is starting to feel like kennys and he won a league cup and got to the final of the FA cup and was still fired.

What do you think will happen if we finish 10th or lower?

The liverpool job is rotton. You really are on a hiding to nothing. You have no funds, yet you are expected to get a top 4 finish? You get a season before the media start to knife you in the back.

I'm sorry but mentioning Rafa in the same sentence as Shankly is comlete and utter disrespectful towards Shankly. In no way did rafa do anything near what Shankly achieved at the club.

i was a fan of Rafa but looking back at what he did to the club now i think he was the start of all the negativity and problems at the club. He aired our dirty laundry in the press when it came to the owners (not the liverpool way), he tried to get rid of Alonso to bring in Barry (that's just ridiculous) and then made that row public. He did a Kevin Keagan type rant towards SIR ***** that unsettled the team and gave Manure the amunition to push on and beat us to a title we should have won.  Shall i go on?

i'm not saying the BR should be lorded as the saviour already but he should at least get our support and not be judged against other managers until he's had chance to impliment the changes he needas to and allowed to right the mistakes made previously.

i think your being a bit disrespectful to rafa there mate, he took us over when we looked like a busted flush and had us competing toe to toe with the most powerful clubs in the world, in the CL not only did we beat the likes of barcelona, real madrid, inter milan, AC milan, juventus, PSV, marseilles, anderlecht etc we also beat arsenal and of course chelsea in 2 huge semi finals. this was at a time when they had a great manager in mourinho and an open chequebook transfer policy.
rafa went head to head against other great managers when all the odds were in their favour, they were the ones at the clubs with all the resources but rafa didnt need billions to be competative, he just needed a decent size club and his notepad and pen.
when benitez came out and told the fans that H+G were a pair of carpetbaggers he probably saved the club, most managers would have just collected their wages and carried on.
yes benitez probably was a bit foolish to come out and have a pop at ferguson in the press but it just shows how big time rafa was, he wasnt afraid of anyone.
imo rafa benitez was one of the greatest managers in this clubs history and worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as the great man himself.

he was a great manager mate, even in the league he was only just pipped to the title by a united side with a forward line of christiano ronaldo, carlos tevez and wayne rooney, and even with united having that sort of quality in their side we beat them home and away (including a 4-1 mullering at old trafford four days after slamming real madrid 4-0 at anfield)
heady days indeed.

Which is why Rafa lost my respect.

That year we finished second, we went all out attack. We showed we could do it, Rafa took off the leashes and said to the players, go for it. And why not? Well, heres why.

By this time, Rafa was on a hiding to nothing. He was in his last year of his contract and realised it was make or break time. What he had done since the champions league had been pretty abysmal. He knew he was on his last legs and so he let the players, well, play.

Once he got a new contract, what happened next?

Well we all know. He got his contract, his future was secure, and he robbed us of the kind of play he showed we are capable of.

Its easy in the end to be disrespectful of Rafa, because lets be honest here, he was in it for himself.

Rafa's love of the club, city and people of Liverpool was beyond the call of duty. He became desparate in his final 12 months, even teh most pro-rafa fan would admit that however you cannot sepoarate the football issues and the club ownership and boardroom issues which eventually proved too great for him to cope with.

Rafa was pure Liverpool. Still is.

I dont really want to talk about Rafa because it still really pains me to think of what could have been.
I am positive he was Liverpool through and through but maybe he just wasnt the right person to bring back the glory days in the league?

Seemed i opened a can of worms.

I must point out i wasnt compairing Rafa to shanks.

I was making the point what others have said about Rodgers Being the next Shanks or being very rafa like ect. When in my opinion he has done nothing of any sort to be mentioned with those types of Manager.

As for the whole Rafa debate.

Look at his record, the guy is a legend simple as. He won the big one using  Djimi fn Traore and Milan Baros!!

He is the reason we demand such levels! Back when rafa was on form we nearly won the league and where beating Barca and Inter.

Im thankful to Rafa for the work he did with the academy / young players.  We're seeing the benefits now with Kelly, Shelvey, Sterling, Suso etc.  Most of our better players are still Rafa's players also.

Think it was an awful decision to sack him when we did.

Delighted with Rodgers though, think he is going to become a fantastic Liverpool manager if can remain patient enough.

He'll be great I'm sure but we've got to be in this for the long haul. We as fans have to ride the storms WITH Rodgers, not against him. because out the other side will be glory days again, I'm sure of it. who's on board?

No matter how warm and tingly you get, these interviews mean f**k all when you analyse our season in 8 months time.

Results mean everything in this game, that's why Mourinho is a world class manager despite being a f**king world class w**ker.

And reputations are built over time, not in the space of 3 league games. So I wish people would shut the fk up about telling him to stop talking and start acting.

To be honest mate, I don't know why you would think anyone is passing judgement on Rodgers after only 3 games, a very daft thing to say.

The point I am trying to make and most fans would agree is enough of this fairy floss feel good PR stuff (we heard it at the start of the season and THAT IS enough) now its time to roll up the sleaves and get stuck in.

Rodgers can talk football philosophy and strategies until he is blue in the face, it means f**k all if we have a miserable season and don't see any progress from last season.

I think he has turned down a fair share of jobs.

Anyone that wouldn't be at least interested in a manager that's won domestic trophies in Europe's biggest leagues as well as European trophies is crazy.

English media have tried to destroy him, they prefer the likes of Moyes, Hodgson and Pardew
