His record is ok at best. I still dont see why he felt the need to tell everyone what his plans are in such detail, Ive never seen someone at a top job come out and talk this much in such a short time.

To judge a fella after 3 matches is ridiculous. Knowing this football club, we'll end up getting a draw against Sunderland and a win against United. We're so Jekyll and Hyde, it's unbelievable. Even if we do worse than last season in the league, I don't want a change in manager, we need stability at this club, we need continuity. Rodgers has proven himself to be a very astute manager and I don't care what anyone else, the fact that Mourinho (the best manager in football at the moment) says Rodgers is an excellent acquisition for Liverpool, then I'm more than likely going to take notice of him, rather than someone like 'The Hustler'. Rodgers's interviews are encouraging and our style of play is very encouraging, unfortunately the results aren't there at the moment, but they'll come in time. We have to take the rough with the smooth as frustrating as that is, but not as frustrating as changing the manager every six months - to a year.

His record is ok at best. I still dont see why he felt the need to tell everyone what his plans are in such detail, Ive never seen someone at a top job come out and talk this much in such a short time.

i tend to agree with you, i`m not sure why he is going into such detail either
it`s like that open letter he wrote to the fans after the players didnt acknowledge the away fans after the gomel game, he`s almost trying too hard to get everyone to like him.
then again maybe he is under orders, the club seem to be on a bit of a PR drive at the moment, trying to win hearts and minds no doubt, someone should tell them the way to do that is to win games.
along with rodgers gomel letter we`ve also had john henry`s post transfer window state of the union address as well, we are a month into the season and we`ve had more open letters than premier league points.

Rodgers has proved nothing other than he can get 1 team to play nice football and win a few big games. Face facts swansea came to the Prem via the playoffs? They didnt win the league. Once here they had one good season.

Im not saying he cant do it but i will be dammed if im going to stand on a box and call him the next "Rafa. Shanks" ect. The huge build up is starting to feel like kennys and he won a league cup and got to the final of the FA cup and was still fired.

What do you think will happen if we finish 10th or lower?

The liverpool job is rotton. You really are on a hiding to nothing. You have no funds, yet you are expected to get a top 4 finish? You get a season before the media start to knife you in the back.

Rodger's interview I thought was brilliant.  I think he recognises that this is a big job for him and if his vision is going to work then he's going to need time.  He recognises that the best way to get time is to be good at PR and not to rock the boat with the owners.  This is why he answered every question put to him by the press in detail (including the tactics, which I accept is unusual) and it's why he was supportive of the owners and didn't point the finger at them for the failure to bring in a striker during the transfer window.

It's refreshing to see a manager be as open and honest as he seems to be, but I can see why some might think it comes acros as a bit naive.  The proof of the pudding will be how we do in the league though.  It's all well and good talking the talk but we have 1 point from 3 league games so far and struggled to beat Hearts in a Europa qualifier.  Some would also argue the squad is actually weaker than the one we finished last season with.

I think we just have to stick with him.  We were poor last season and finished 8th.  We haven't invested in the squad while others around us have and we will be relying on bringing through youngsters this season.  We can't expect him to get us any higher than we finished last season I don't think.  Setting targets like 'top 4' (which I don't think many realistically expect us to achieve) or 'top 6' aren't helpful, this young team will not cope with that pressure.

Should we finish 10th and bomb out of all cups early then regardless I think we have to stick with him as long as the players still seem to be behind him and there are signs that the style of play is improving.  If the players lose belief and clearly aren't playing for him then that's when you have to look at it and say it's not going to work, because no manager ever turns that situation around.  But I live in hope that the players and fans will be patient with him and he will turn this club around.

I will tell everyone now though, it will definitely take time because this squad is not a strong one and I don't think the best manager in the world would get in the top 4 with this set of players and they'd be doing very well to get us top 6.  City, United and Chelsea are in their own league this season I think.  Arsenal and Spurs definitely have better squads than us.  We are in a similar bracket to Newcastle and, I hate to say it, Everton.  You can never rule out a surprise package to push into top 6 either - West Brom look a surprise package so far and Swansea look good too, while Sunderland have bought well and are very strong at home (our next game).  It's a tough, tough league at the moment.

Rodgers need time eh? Many fans here are expecting him to be the next Shankly and in Brendan we trust, stuff like that because he knows how to talk and he has the charisma. I like to believe that it's true but it is too early and only time can tell. Our club has had too many false dawns like when Houllier won the treble in 2001, Rafa won the CL in his first season in charge, the return of the King and subsequently everyone including myself was expecting him to repeat the successes of his first spell and what happened to them 3, all were sacked before their contract was up. Will BR be the next manager to be terminated? Like I said only time can tell.

I choose to remain skeptical like I did with Kenny at the beginning of last season and I received my share of ridicule (I was your Doom merchant) and criticism as a result. Unfortunately I was right at the end of May. Perhaps the King should have been given another year but that is now a what-if and we'll never know for sure. I am skeptical or rather uncertain of BR and think he is overrated is because what had he achieved prior to joining Liverpool? He was fired at Reading and Watford. He becomes the 'nut case' by his definition because he allowed Carroll to leave without a replacement. I apologize if I sound too pesimistic but all I am saying is, I will step back and see how he performs as a manager and wouldn't be surprised if he f**ked up in his first season. I hope I am wrong and will be too pleased for everyone if he can prove me wrong.

I'm sorry but mentioning Rafa in the same sentence as Shankly is comlete and utter disrespectful towards Shankly. In no way did rafa do anything near what Shankly achieved at the club.

i was a fan of Rafa but looking back at what he did to the club now i think he was the start of all the negativity and problems at the club. He aired our dirty laundry in the press when it came to the owners (not the liverpool way), he tried to get rid of Alonso to bring in Barry (that's just ridiculous) and then made that row public. He did a Kevin Keagan type rant towards SIR ***** that unsettled the team and gave Manure the amunition to push on and beat us to a title we should have won.  Shall i go on?

i'm not saying the BR should be lorded as the saviour already but he should at least get our support and not be judged against other managers until he's had chance to impliment the changes he needas to and allowed to right the mistakes made previously.

i think your being a bit disrespectful to rafa there mate, he took us over when we looked like a busted flush and had us competing toe to toe with the most powerful clubs in the world, in the CL not only did we beat the likes of barcelona, real madrid, inter milan, AC milan, juventus, PSV, marseilles, anderlecht etc we also beat arsenal and of course chelsea in 2 huge semi finals. this was at a time when they had a great manager in mourinho and an open chequebook transfer policy.
rafa went head to head against other great managers when all the odds were in their favour, they were the ones at the clubs with all the resources but rafa didnt need billions to be competative, he just needed a decent size club and his notepad and pen.
when benitez came out and told the fans that H+G were a pair of carpetbaggers he probably saved the club, most managers would have just collected their wages and carried on.
yes benitez probably was a bit foolish to come out and have a pop at ferguson in the press but it just shows how big time rafa was, he wasnt afraid of anyone.
imo rafa benitez was one of the greatest managers in this clubs history and worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as the great man himself.
