Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

But Gerrard's not currently injured, he's looking fit and healthy, and is playing excellent football. You can't fail to be encouraged by that given the difficulties he's faced with injuries in recent times. The Euros is an opportunity for him and and our other players away on international duty to develop and gain confidence and when they play well, as they've been doing, it's not just good for their countries, it's also good for their development as players. They'll learn and grow on the field of play whether they're playing for club or country, but especially on the big occasions, and the Euros is definitely one of them, and that's why it's pleasing to see them do well out there. You can be neurotic and worry about potential injuries and the long-term effects of a maximum of six games worth of exertion in June if you like, but I'm not going to let any of those risks cloud what I see as our captain's return to form, let alone be so churlish as to accuse him of disloyalty after all he's done for us over the years.

It's not just playing 6 games though is it ? The training before hand , our pre season starts very soon and he will be missing for a while.

Yes he is currently fit - but for how long - his injury record over the last 3 seasons is awful and he isn't a young guy any more

Scholes is the perfect example - retired to prolong his club career

When the hell did I accuse him of being disloyal ?!

You really have read a lot more into my posts.

Think you need to go back and read them again.

We have lost Gerrard to injury too many times now ( and a number of times because of international duty ) . I don't want that risk taken anymore with him and want him to retire and concentrate on his club.

When Gerrard plays his best I only want one team to benefit from that - his club.

Benny, you've intimated on a number of occasions that you think Gerrard ough to show more loyalty to Liverpool by quitting international football:

He is going all out for this tournament for England . He isn't as bad as Owen in terms of putting country before club but it gets close at times.

and

When Gerrard spends the 4 season in a row in and out of the team through injury i know exactly where the blame lies.

Another way of saying the same thing is that you think he's been disloyal to Liverpool by 'putting country before club'.

Just because you don't respect the wishes of Gerrard (or any of our other players' wishes) to play for his country doesn't mean that he hasn't shown enough commitment to Liverpool. You don't achieve what he has at club level without being enduringly committed to the cause and the last thing he deserves is to be compared to Owen in terms of his devotion to the club. I want to see what's best for Liverpool and so does Gerrard. If he really felt as fecked as you've made out ('dying on his feet at the end of every game'  ), then he wouldn't take the risk of playing for England. As it happens, he isn't injured, he's been playing well and that bodes well for us, for him and for England.

I'm going to bow out now and hope he hasn't put everything into this tournament and left the club with nothing.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying and I don't think you ever will.

Let's just hope we get more than 15 -20 games out of him next season.

Gerrard only played 18 games this season and he's finally hitting his stride after being out injured so long. Not only that, he's doing his country proud by being a super captian too and all Benny can do is knock the guy and the team.  Priceless.

Yes it's great that he is finally hitting his stride for England  as his club struggled all season long without him

Course, that's what Gerrard's all about; leaving the club with nothing.

Be seeing you then.

Where do you come from ?

And by nothing I meant physically ie nothing left in the tank.

Have you even recognised the difference to the mancs from Scholes since he retired ? Imagine Gerrard extending his career like that for us

and after a rest he'll be back in his stride for us. He's harldly played for the last 12 months and NEEDS MATCHES....so far this season he's played 18 for us and 3 for england.  That's 22 games...no where near the 40+ that's expect from a FULL season.

Gerrard hasn't managed a full season for a couple of years now and it will be getting harder each year due to his age and injury past.

He needs protecting and he needs to do it himself.

Whilst I am obviously delighted the rest of this country can finally see what Reds fans have been privileged to see for many years ,I cant help thinking
that whatever reserves of strength our skipper seems to have suddenly tapped into would have been best utilised in a fucking reds shirt .

Who knows perhaps if we had witnessed the quality  coupled with the leadership he has shown when tasked with captaining his country whilst donning
a red shirt ,(albeit from his Derby performance ) then just maybe Dalglish might still have been in a job come the start of the new season .

So while the rest of the country and the media applaud our captains mammoth performances in the white of England ,I cant help feeling slightly cheated
after the half arsed effort we as supporters have had to endure last season ... Sorry for being a party pooper and all that like ,but this love in for
the national team only serves to make my flesh crawl .

I hate sharing our skipper with these clueless blurts who regularly informed us Lampard was a much more capable player ,and I fervently hope Englands
involvement in this tournament dies on its arse along with the dreams of the corrupt and largely disingenuous FA .

Colours nailed firmly to the mast ,so to speak  :D
