Somehow I don't think Roy would be able to attract such players. If we had an established continental manager maybe.

Bav,
If, as I hope come January, RH is NOT the manager of the club, then I believe he should NOT be the guy tapping up potential new signings. Any player with half a brain will see what he has achieved since he started with LFC (worst start ever ??), and do a runner straight away.
No, I believe KK and other LFC legends should be the ones, alongside NESV, to talk to players about joining LFC and bringing us back to where we should rightfully be.
If I were to be tapped up by KK, I'd place a helluva lot more kudos in what HE has to say than RH.
Leave RH out of this, FFS !!

er, that's KK's job as technical director.

He's employed to (amongst other things) to meet potential new players and convince them that coming to Liverpool is the right step.

And so it should be...

The point being that any suggestion that RH might be used as leverage to lure a player to LFC is absolute nonsense.

IMO it would do the opposite....

like he did with Cole and Torres?

after the world cup he flew out to speak to Fernando when there was concerns he wanted out. Torres said publicily that he appreciated Roy's personal visit.

I believe Cole joined because of the CLUB and the efforts made by the manager.

Then there's Meireles...i could go on.

Whoever is the manager, whether its Roy or Rikjaard or KK or MON, the gaffer has a massive task in his hands to address our weaknesses and strengthening them by buying very good players.

I'm not concerned by these stories.

SSN will milk them for all they are worth to scaremonger about "liverpool in decline", but the statement is really just scene setting so clubs we are trying to buy from don't up their prices by 40% as we have "wealthy new owners".

This is very sensible.

With a long term plan in mind we have to buy players younger than 25, and integrate those into a team where we start to trust our existing youngsters over time.

Shelvey, Pacheco, Ngog, Insua (if he comes back), Kelly, Ince, Ngoo, Eccleston, and that wonderkid at 16 whose name I can't remember, all stand a chance of establishing themselves into a first team of the future.

NESV are looking at the next ten years, not the next ten months, and I fully support the plan.

Although I must say that it would not surprise me if they did splash the cash either in Jan or summer, and this statement is just keeping prices down.

How do you know they're looking at the next ten years?  :D

For all you know NESV bought LFC because we were available on a cheap. Such a historical club with a global brand name for 300 million is peanuts. So they might not stick around that long, once they get good enough profit on their investment they'll probably sell us.

If you think that I suggest you read the article by Dan Roan for the BBC. It portrays NESV as the exact opposite...

If that was the case, why didn't they sell the Red Sox after winning their second world series in four years? That team's value was at an all time high at that point. If NESV were specifically in it for the cash they missed a golden opportunity there.

maguskwt wrote:I don't like the arsenal model to be perfectly honest. It's impressive that wenger's scouting system managed to unveil so many young gems. But it is the selling of senior key players like Henry, Veira, etc that caused their downfall. You can't win the league with just youngsters. Hopefully NESV sees this as Arsenal's weakness and not just look at the arsenal model as a business. IMO what the mancs are doing is the right way to go, mixing youngsters with the old guards. I won't be very impressed with NESV if Carra and Gerrard decided to leave the club because they can only get 1 year extension after 30 years of age or something like that.

Just saw this, agree mate

Since he left chelsea because they would not give him 100k a week and joined us for the low low price of 90k a week + a 6 mill sign on fee i'd say he went for the money.

where did the 6m signing fee come from?

Speculation to be honest, I don't think we had that money at the time!
