I can't see this being correct. How could Hicks appoint Broughton and Barclays Capital as independent parties in the sale process if he'd already agreed a contract setting a price down? My understand is that the judge's decision will come down to whether Broughton had the authority as chairman of the club to seek approval from the existing board members for the bid from NESV. If Hicks had a pre-contract stating only x amount could be agreed for the sale of the club why did he need to try and remove Purslow and Ayres as directors in order to get his own people in to reject the offer from NESV?

All owners are "Sugar Daddys" , the different is what kind of "Sugar Daddys" .... compare Roman and H and G ... clear cut different Roman know Football , we wants to win every single matches .... unlike H and G, they only know how much money that they can save to pay to the bank ... they don't care about the players , the Club and the Fans .... they only know about save to pay to the bank ...

Look at Man city, yes they buy and buy is NOT they are cheaters .... They buy the best and they wants success and make history ...

Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton believes that potential new owners John Henry and Tom Werner will convince striker Fernando Torres once and for all to commit his future to Anfield.

There has already been speculation that £50 million-rated Torres will head off to Manchester City or Barcelona in the summer after Liverpool's disastrous start to the new season and the new owners will need to be pretty persuasive to convince the Spanish striker that he will be embarking on a return to the glory days (and a quick return to the Champions League), rather than being embroiled in a relegation fight.

"The new owners want to be winners, and Fernando Torres wants to be a winner,'' Broughton told ESPNsoccernet. ''They will be well matched. Will Fernando want to stay when he hears what they've got to say? - absolutely."

Immediately the owners of the Boston Red Sox are installed and running the club, they plan to meet up with manager Roy Hodgson and all the key players to convince them of their vision of turning around Liverpool's on-field fortunes - and to make them into winners.

"The plan was to get all the players together at the training ground to inform them of events, but then we discovered that most of them had gone off for international duty,'' Broughton explained. ''Christian Purslow has spoken to Jamie Carragher and the few players who have been left. Christian has also spoken to our manager Roy Hodgson about the ideas and plans of the new owners."

LONDON - Liverpool’s takeover by the owners of the Boston Red Sox will not go ahead if the English club is forced to enter a form bankruptcy protection and gets penalized in the Premier League standings, people with knowledge of the negotiations said Saturday.

Liverpool is already in the three-team relegation zone after its worst start to a season in more than 50 years, and would receive a nine-point penalty from the Premier League if it became insolvent before the Boston deal was completed.

A penalty could doom Liverpool to dropping down to English soccer’s second tier, and would cause New England Sports Ventures, which owns baseball’s Red Sox, to walk away from the deal, two people with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. They spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side is discussing the situation publicly.

The club could avert financial administration if three Liverpool board members persuade a London court next week to force co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. to sanction the 300 million-pound ($476 million) sale to New England Sports Ventures.

Hicks and Gillett will claim the trio don’t have the power to approve a takeover bid which they said "dramatically undervalues" the club.

But if the court rules in favor of Hicks and Gillett, the pair must repay the team’s bank debt by next Friday to prevent the Royal Bank of Scotland taking control of Liverpool and potentially placing the holding company for the club in administration, a form of bankruptcy protection.

A third person familiar with the negotiations said that, in this scenario, NESV could try to secure a cheaper deal to buy the 18-time English champions.

Meanwhile, before accepting NESV’s bid earlier this week, Liverpool’s board also considered an offer from an unidentified Asian consortium. And even though it has approved NESV’s potential takeover, the Premier League is still carrying out the same checks into the suitability of the Asian group to run the club.

For two people with so much knowlege of the negotiations, they sure as f*ck have very little knowledge of how the league works. A 9 point deduction would be a severe blow, granted, but it's October, and the deficit would not be impossible to overcome by May. Someone should have told those people that gettind deducted 9 points and being in the relegation zone 3 months into the season does not mean you go straight down to the Championship.

I think it's posturing by NESV. They have a history of leaking out information to press friends to suit their arguments. By threatening to pull out, it causes a ruckus, and puts pressure on the court to rule in their favor so that this mess ends quickly.

I agree I doubt a 9 point deduction at this stage of season would be a dealbreaker.
It's more likely posturing or media beat up

I don't really like the sound of that to be honest, we've had enough of politicians and spin doctors running our club, what we need now is responsible, discreet owners who have funds for initial player investment and are here for the longterm profit that can be generated through success on the pitch.

Questions for RedSoxfan:

1. Do you like these guys?
2. Have they put significant investment into your club?
3. Have they increased the debt on your club?
4. How visible are they on a day to day basis?
5. Do you think they are there for the long-term?

Protesting Kop branded 'a noise we have been dealing with'

TOM HICKS has delivered the final insult to The Kop by arrogantly dismissing them as 'noise we are dealing with'.

The amazing jibe was made by Liverpool owner Hicks on his last visit to England.

Hicks put the condescending 'noise' claim in writing as part of an outlined refinancing package. However, he still claimed to be 'sensitive' to the fans' desire to see him go.

Hicks met with fellow Anfield directors in a board meeting on September 15, although there is no suggestion he presented the explosive document to them.

In an astonishing insight into the Texan's erratic behaviour, he brazenly shrugged off the supporters' hatred under a section entitled 'noise we are dealing with'.

Hicks also backtracked from earlier claims he valued Liverpool as highly as £800million.

He said the only reason he had pitched the club between £600m and £800m was because too many people were talking about selling just for the £282m owed to RBS.

In fact, Hicks predicted the Reds would fetch somewhere between the RBS debt level and £600m.

Liverpool have now agreed a £300m sale to New England Sports Ventures.

The rest of the board - two of which Hicks tried to sack this week - are stunned by the American's bizarre antics.

The revulsion with which he is held by supporters has already reached fever pitch.

Alan Kayll, from the Kop Faithful group, said: "Hicks Jr was forced to resign for insulting one fan. Hicks Snr has now gone further by insulting all Liverpool fans.

"This underlines the utter contempt and disregard he has for how supporters feel."

Hicks goes to the High Court this week in an attempt to block the takeover by Boston Red Sox owner John W Henry.
