A statement from Red Sox President Larry Lucchino to Red Sox fans:
Today’s announcement that New England Sports Ventures (NESV) has reached an understanding with the Liverpool Football Club Board of Directors to buy that historic Club is a tremendous development for the NESV partners; and, I predict, for the passionate supporters of Liverpool Football Club.

To be clear, while it is exciting for all of us as global sports fans, this is an undertaking of the NESV partnership, which owns the Boston Red Sox, New England Sports Network, Roush Fenway Racing, and Fenway Sports Group. It is not an undertaking of the Boston Red Sox and will not divert our resources or focus on the job at hand – winning a third World Series for the loyal members of Red Sox Nation.

Those of us in the Red Sox front office, starting with me, Theo, and the baseball management team, share a single-minded focus on the baseball team, and we will remain in our roles and committed to extending the extraordinary and winning traditions of the Boston Red Sox. We want to assure our fans that our work and our Red Sox resources will continue to be devoted to fielding excellent teams in 2011 and beyond, teams worthy of our fans' avid support.

The Boston Globe has this fluff piece about "8 Things You Should Know About Liverpool". I'm sure you all will tear it apart. :D  There's also a link to an article about the sale.

I think a HUGE key for you (or US since I am a new fan  :;):  ) is in who Henry and Werner hire to run the football operation. As the excellent post above this indicated, Henry hired some great people in Boston. Part of that was luck, as they are now regarded as one of the top organizations in baseball. But an important point is that Henry has been able to retain these key people and/or hire strong replacements when people are lured away to better positions at other clubs. Henry seems to be a nice man that people enjoy working with and for. So hopefully he gets a little lucky in Liverpool too and gets the right management team in place.

I honestly don't know much about the Rafa drama, but I'll say this. If he was truly a top manager (and I'm an American and too football-stupid to know) and his sentiments that I read about Liverpool being home are true, Henry is the type who will find a way to get him back here someday. I won't embarrass Henry by linking to it but there was an article that came out about his courtship of his much younger bride, and it stated how he wrote her poetry and did all sorts of over-the-top dramatic :censored: to woo her.  So believe me, I can see him holding a sudden press conference and having Rafa come out from behind the draperies to surprise everyone.  He loves that stuff.

One point about renovating or building Anfield anew...Fenway is considered a "sacred shrine" by baseball fans everywhere because it is the oldest park in the world. That has helped continue a sellout streak for 5 years. Truth be told, the team was decimated by injuries this year and it was apparent that it would not participate in the playoffs long ago. The remaining talent wasn't good enough to overcome this. But the seats remained full till the last day due in part I think to the pilgrims who travel to visit Fenway, not so much the team, this August and September. So having a stadium that is a tourist attraction is a huge financial cushion. It assures the club that the seats will remain full in good times and bad. So think about that in regard to Anfield. It was built in 188?? so that's amazing -- you don't want to lose that.

Just my 2 cents.    :)

I like your post mate , some nice things said in it ,  :nod

Even though I'm a Sox fan, I know very little about the racing connection they have. I just found a video about the Roush Fenway Racing team. This is the racing group Henry bought a few years ago. If you are a race car lover this is a pretty interesting tour of how they build cars and get them ready to race.

Load of sh!te its in The High Court tommorrow, he cant put off anything the date is the 15th of October, if they fail to pay back the debt then its administration for us, and penalty fees for them to the tune of 60 million pounds.

hope your right.

if its under a court order then i take it he is asking for the sale to be held off untill the 23, in that case the club and debts are frozen untill that date, this will also put a hold on anything RBS would like to do as they would also come under the court order, bitlike if you can not pay back a loand and go to court yourself, its all put on hold.

nothing is going to be easy when Hicks is about.
