yeah but ciggy only remembers the bad times - she's a sceptical old goat and it wouldn't matter if the richest Liverpool fan in the world took over and paid the lot off and built a new stadium blah blah blah, she'd point out the fact that he once lost 30p playing marbles when he was ten years old.

ignore her, most do.

Sorry for being concerned and not jumping through hoops at the prospect of another wolf in sheeps clothing. 3 years of hell most of us have been through the last thing our club needs is the same thing to happen again.

Not my favourite person but he makes a very good point.

On Twitter, Manchester United fan and Sky television presenter Eamonn Holmes disagreed. "We don't buy baseball teams - because we don't understand it, so why don't these American companies take the hint and follow by example?"

If Eammon Holmes  :Oo:  means 'we' as in English people dont buy Baseball teams then he is correct, what failed to mention is that 'we' dont but English football teams either. See Man City, Chelsea, United, Villa as examples with Arsenal going done the same road with Usmanov and Stanley Kroenke

I do hope that the new owners look to Christian Purslow as a possible man for the job of over-seeing Liverpool's rise from the Gillette and Hicks debacle.

Well said Supersub and you echo my thoughts

If we can go down the road of the Arsenal mode then ill be a happy man

Sums it up perfectly for me as well

The bubble will burst sooner or later for Citeh and co, long term stability is far more important ot me then some short term suger daddy glory

Exatley

I see a problem with us competing against clubs that are throwing millions around. Fair enough we have a bigger fan base but we need so much investment to get the most out of that income and i just don't see it coming from this guy. We need a stadium as a matter of urgency and investment in the team. The problem i have with americans is they don't understand how competitive the premiership is and how much investment is needed. The two idiots we're about to get rid of learnt this. They thought LFC would stay at the top and they could just sell us for more than the bought us with little investment. I'm not saying this new guy is looking to do that but i just think they look at LFC and see European Champions etc, what they don't see is what happened to Leeds.

and as for those who say that we still won't be able to compete, i don't necessarily agree with this. we weren't a well run club when the yanks came in 3 years ago and yet we were still on the verge of reaching a champions league final.

Overall, he is a fabulous owner. The Red Sox have the #2 payroll in baseball. He is not afraid to spend money...but he doesn't spend money like a drunk sailor. His General Manager Theo Epstein is always trying to get the most value for the money. Since Henry's group has taken over, the Red Sox have become a powerhouse and won 2 World Series (2004 and 2007) after not winning one since 1918. They are usually in the baseball postseason playoffs, and only missed by a bit this year because the team was decimated by injuries.

The stadium is Fenway Park, the oldest in baseball, built in 1912.  There was a lot of talk about building a new park, but they decided to revitalize Fenway. Lots of new concessions, bathrooms, etc. The Red Sox currently have the longest sellout streak in history at over 500 games in a row.

Henry's a very good man, a little quirky, but nice. He apparently is quite rich - a self-made made who is an expert at stock trading. Not only does his group own the Red Sox, but they have the very profitable regional cable New England Sports Network (NESN) and own a stake in one of America's top Nascar racing companies (very popular in the southern US, not so much here in Boston).

Speaking honestly, I think you'll be happy with him if these rumors are true. Your only reservations should be 1) who will run the football operation, as I don't think he's a football expert, 2) the Red Sox have the highest ticket prices in Major League Baseball - will the same be true at Liverpool, and 3) does he have enough money to match the insane owners that are in the Premier League?

Overall though, he's a good businessman, very smart. His co-owner is Tom Werner who made his money in television (owned the Cosby Show, Roseanne and others). The President is Larry Lucchino, a very savvy baseball man. And the rest of their management team is great too. They are considered to be in the top echelon of owners in baseball.

And here's a long interview with him in 2004 which can introduce you to him: http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/1113

I confess to only knowing a little about football. I follow the Premier League a bit but am a child in terms of knowledge. But I am aware of your frustration with your current owners. I just wanted to reassure you all that Henry and his group would certainly seem to be an improvement. They are liked by 95% of the fans here, which isn't easy, as the Red Sox are rabidly followed and critiqued, arguably as much as their famous and more historically successful rival the New York Yankees.

Good luck. I'll drop by again soon.  :)

Many thanks for taking the time and effort, a very good post...Cheers.

Bourghton said they will clear the debt

He doesnt mate 400 million is the debt, new stadium 400 million new team 100 million, the fellas worth 800 million.

We are back to square one, maybe he is a nicer person than Hicks & Gillet but he wants our club for one thing, and one thing only to make money out of it.

Firstly, barring the obscenly rich, ALL owners only want to make money from a football club. What's your point?

Secondly, the debt is 237m plus between 20-40m in RBS late payment fines.

Thirdly, if it wasn't dragged out in the press you would have nothing to form an opinion on. Previously you were moaning you felt helpless because you didn't know what was going on. Make your mind up.

Finally. The bloke is worth 1.1bn according to Forbes.

Mmm... we spent 70million on new players 3 years ago..

Im gonna go against the flow here and say that someone worth 570mill shouldnt be buying us... Clearing the debt isnt the only issue with the club and if other bids are out there, then we should consider them ..

We make good profits and all that but the club needs major investment in terms of building a new stadium and investment in the playing squad... If the owner doesnt have the financial capability then we'll most probably have to get back to borrowing big money to move the club forward...
