LFC offer believed to be £290M. Effectively meaning Hicks and Gillett will lose around £100M from the £140M Cayman based loan.

I do hope that the new owners look to Christian Purslow as a possible man for the job of over-seeing Liverpool's rise from the Gillette and Hicks debacle.

well theres your problem, they dont have the money to buy the club and clear all the debts and a new ground.

John Henry is a very good owner to have in my opinion. Sox are allways
(since he bought the team) one of the top teams. Missed the playoofs only
twice in last 8 years, and won twice the world series (2004 and 2007)
after the famous 86 years curse. Hope LFC can stop it's curse too...

Boston's payroll is second only to the hated Yankees. This year turned out
to be a "bridge" year untill more young players are supposed to join
from the "farm system".

I think that the fans and players love Henry a lot. Hope it will be the same
now with Liverpool.

Good days are coming !!!!

:)

Can he fork out for 4 or 5 top players in 1 window? Can he buy us without a leveraged buyout? I can understand a loan for the stadium but to buy us out is this his own money or more debt?

This looks like the same thing all over again.

I think Henry might understand that comes January the season might be "lost". In that case, I can't see big spendings.
On the long run, I have no doubt that Henry will do everything (including big spendings) to bring LFC back to the place we belong - A first class europen team.

He is not buying the team to try and make a profit out of it. He is a truly a sports fan, and will seek only the best for the success of the team. Second place is considered a bad year in Boston these days ... (we won twice, but note that due to the playoff system it is very hard to win even your badget is the biggest. Look at the Yankees that won nothibg for 10 years in a row while having biggest budget by far).

The Premier League will not dock points from Liverpool if the club's American owners' company Kop Holdings goes into administration next week.

There have been suggestions that if Tom Hicks and George Gillett block a £300million takeover for the club by New England Sports Ventures, owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, then their holding company would be put into administration by the Royal Bank of Scotland over their unpaid £280million debts.

That would not lead to an automatic points deduction for the Reds however - the Premier League have clarified the rules regarding parent companies so that if the club itself is a fully solvent entity - as Liverpool is - then the penalty clause should not apply.

A Premier League source said: "The aim of the regulations is primarily to capture clubs who have gone into insolvency. This is manifestly not the case with Liverpool Football Club."

For example, last year West Ham's Icelandic owners went into administration but that did not lead to any Premier League action as the club itself was solvent.

All prospective owners are obliged to give the league 10 days' notice of a takeover and prove they have the funds to sustain the club.

Any prospective owners have to have a face-to-face meeting with league chiefs to convince them they have enough money for the season to come.

Couple of years old, but it talks about him suffering 75% losses on one of his currency trading hedge firms in 2007

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I am not under the illusion that this guy from Red Sox is going to personally hand over a wedge of money from his own bank account to pay for everything ...clear the debt, build a stadium, buy a new squad of players and everyone a free hot dog with a match ticket....I'm sure he will have a personal stake together with other shareholders....I'm not expecting spades in the ground come January, not because it's too frosty, but because when the dust and the smoke had cleared from the air, thank god said the old man Anfield is still there....I am not waiting for an Abromovich because it ain't going to happen...we will have to spend time realising we will be in a re-building exercise for the club, team and it's divided supporters.

redsoxfan wrote:Hello everyone, I've been a Boston Red Sox fan my whole life and I thought I might give you some insight about John Henry. :)

Overall, he is a fabulous owner. The Red Sox have the #2 payroll in baseball. He is not afraid to spend money...but he doesn't spend money like a drunk sailor. His General Manager Theo Epstein is always trying to get the most value for the money. Since Henry's group has taken over, the Red Sox have become a powerhouse and won 2 World Series (2004 and 2007) after not winning one since 1918. They are usually in the baseball postseason playoffs, and only missed by a bit this year because the team was decimated by injuries.

The stadium is Fenway Park, the oldest in baseball, built in 1912.  There was a lot of talk about building a new park, but they decided to revitalize Fenway. Lots of new concessions, bathrooms, etc. The Red Sox currently have the longest sellout streak in history at over 500 games in a row.

Henry's a very good man, a little quirky, but nice. He apparently is quite rich - a self-made made who is an expert at stock trading. Not only does his group own the Red Sox, but they have the very profitable regional cable New England Sports Network (NESN) and own a stake in one of America's top Nascar racing companies (very popular in the southern US, not so much here in Boston).

Speaking honestly, I think you'll be happy with him if these rumors are true. Your only reservations should be 1) who will run the football operation, as I don't think he's a football expert, 2) the Red Sox have the highest ticket prices in Major League Baseball - will the same be true at Liverpool, and 3) does he have enough money to match the insane owners that are in the Premier League?

Overall though, he's a good businessman, very smart. His co-owner is Tom Werner who made his money in television (owned the Cosby Show, Roseanne and others). The President is Larry Lucchino, a very savvy baseball man. And the rest of their management team is great too. They are considered to be in the top echelon of owners in baseball.

If you want to investigate, here are some good links:

And here's a long interview with him in 2004 which can introduce you to him: http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/1113

I confess to only knowing a little about football. I follow the Premier League a bit but am a child in terms of knowledge. But I am aware of your frustration with your current owners. I just wanted to reassure you all that Henry and his group would certainly seem to be an improvement. They are liked by 95% of the fans here, which isn't easy, as the Red Sox are rabidly followed and critiqued, arguably as much as their famous and more historically successful rival the New York Yankees.

Good luck. I'll drop by again soon.  :)

Thanks  for taking the time and trouble to post that , it is much appreciated.

And by the way, The Red Sox, even before a year we all knew is going nower (was called a bridge year by managment) paid 85 million dollars to lock John Lacky for 5 years, and then same amount for Josh Backett.
Give him some time, and you'll see all Liverpool fans will love him.

Rogan was on and from his perspective it looks increasingly likely that it will end in litigation  ???

I wouldn't personally want to call it at present but it does smack of the endgame to me. It simply can't go on like this.......

The Mancs are revelling in it but their time (and Chelsea's i suspect) will come soon and it will make our troubles seem like a playground sapt. Lets not forget the Mancs are closing in on a billion in debt !

The Beautiful games turned ugly mate..........

And to see them swallowed in their own playground would be life's greatest paradox :)
