I do hope that the new owners look to Christian Purslow as a possible man for the job of over-seeing Liverpool's rise from the Gillette and Hicks debacle.

Well said Supersub and you echo my thoughts

A big sugar daddy coming in is all well and good but to be able to create a winning team from our own profits and resources (which is going to be the case when Uefa bring in their new rules in a few years) is what we need to be as a club. If we can go down the road of the Arsenal mode then ill be a happy man

Was listening to talkshite (yes I know) on the way to work this morning as I needed to hear some news on it and Bruce Grobbelaar was on talking about John Henry. He talked about them winning the world series blah blah blah but he said he has spent significant money between 2004-2007 something to the tune of $40Mil. That's fk all in terms of football, we need 4 or 5 quality players that will probably cost £15-25mil each. I don't want us to do a city or chelsea but I do want us to get our squad to a level where it can compete with the other top teams again.

He doesnt mate 400 million is the debt, new stadium 400 million new team 100 million, the fellas worth 800 million.

We are back to square one, maybe he is a nicer person than Hicks & Gillet but he wants our club for one thing, and one thing only to make money out of it.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

From pkelso

will NOT be debt-free if NESV deal goes through. And absence of any detail on financing means leveraged takeover has to be a possbility

Been a Liverpool and Red Sox fan for since I can remember... And now
both got the same owner.
John Henry is a very good owner to have in my opinion. Sox are allways
(since he bought the team) one of the top teams. Missed the playoofs only
twice in last 8 years, and won twice the world series (2004 and 2007)
after the famous 86 years curse. Hope LFC can stop it's curse too...

Boston's payroll is second only to the hated Yankees. This year turned out
to be a "bridge" year untill more young players are supposed to join
from the "farm system".

I think that the fans and players love Henry a lot. Hope it will be the same
now with Liverpool.

Good days are coming !!!!

Can he fork out for 4 or 5 top players in 1 window? Can he buy us without a leveraged buyout? I can understand a loan for the stadium but to buy us out is this his own money or more debt?

This looks like the same thing all over again.

well theres your problem, they dont have the money to buy the club and clear all the debts and a new ground.

how do you know this? ???

Bourghton said they will clear the debt

its very clear that him his self only has 600mil and and by buying us he starting clean, i take it that he will use his own money? in that case he will be short so part of it will be the company money.

i hope he can clear all the debts but dont see it that way sorry, hope i am wrong

I know your skeptical and not happy and all ciggy, but all I'm hearing is positive vibes about the new guys, I also don't think Henry will own us, its the venture he co-found it, so basically the firm will be investing not himself, which could be a positive thing.

All I care is that we get rid of the debts and get other things moving

Does everyone now accept that the situation has gone nuclear and the fans need to start taking things a bit more seriously?

Over on RAWK people were disgusted about the apathy of the vast majority of fans at the Blackpool game to the protests.

If this ends up in litigation there is a very real chance of relegation as the club will largely cease to function.

We need the debt cleared and stadium building process started. That is the only way we will see success in the future since UEFA is bringing in the new rules. I don't mind a few years without winning anything if it means the club will prosper in the future.

Everyone can't have a sugar dady like Chelsea and City.

To be honest I'm impressed by Broughton, Ayres and Purslow. They have balls. I'm happy but who knows what will happy. At least these three are trying to force Hicks out.

They are going to borrow against a future cashflow to fund the stadium. We are back to square one guys...I think.

If you want jesus himself to buy us then you're going to be disappointed, they're all dodgy. Even if arabs with a hundred jillion billion came in we still couldn't be sure. Looks like we'll have to see what happens here. need to hear more about this.

We heard positive vibes about hicks and gillett years back. Everyone was very happy with the presentation they gave and the pretty pictures of the new stadium, but it was just lies. Whats to stop the exact same thing happening. This fella hasn't got enough money. We are going to end up in debt again.

I;ve read a couple of Red Sox forums since this was announced and from what I can gather their fans have had nothing but good things to say about these guys. As others have said, I'd take a debt free club any time at the moment considering what has gone on. Then we can finally put our profits back into the club on players. Anyone who thought that any owner was ever going to pay for a stadium our of their own personal wealth is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Personally, I can't believe people can assume they're no different from Hicks and Gilette just because they're also American.
