that's a good point there. there might be a conflict of interest as he would naturally have more passion for baseball, and might not invest as much into LFC as he would into Red Sox. guess the Jan transfer window will be an interesting one.

Other than what these 2 cancers are doing to the love of my life my life is pretty perfect in every way at present yet some how i was admitted to hospital last week with a ruptured ulcer caused by STRESS.

These may sound like hollow words we have all spoken to ourselves in the past but i have finally snapped. I feel like nothing else will end this now and i for one want to be on the front page of every paper world wide who is glad to be a murderer.

Although very noble of you Kopite, may I suggest you don't carry out your deed in Texas as i'm sure they still have the death penalty there, drag the tw@t over the border.
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

no, he know's how to create a championship winning MLB team,

our needs are very different, does he understand how different the Prem is to any other sporting league in the world?

Is he aware of our possibilities of exploiting the asaian market.

Does he know he'll have to dig deep into his pockets twice a year to fund players?

I really hope he does, or installs somebody like Peter Kenyon to help him

I doubt any American can truly understand what football means to people here but you would hope these fellas would at least try to immerse themselves in the culture and go some way to get a real feel for it. I dont expect them to come in a chuck money around like the people at City, Liverpools never really done that, but we where a well run club that had people at all levels who understood the game and the people involved. If new owners can go some way to restoring those values and making the club competitive again I would take it in a heartbeat. Just getting a foothold, being stable and having a real long term plan would be a huge leap at this point if not and instant path to glory.

I wouldn't underestimate these guys, even if maybe they don't know the passion of football in England, they certainly know what it takes to run a winning side.

Well, I think if the Red Sox owner want to buy us, or any buyers wanted to buy us, obviously they all have money but we don't know their motives behind their purchase. Is it simply treating it as an asset or really for the love of the club? We will never find out until after regardless of their nationality. I'm Chinese myself but don't know much about the Chinese buyer but for the Red Sox owner, the payroll of the red sox is really ridiculous and probably second in Major league baseball behind the yankees at around USD 170 million (just from my memory) per year. As the Red Sox is a very profitable but would that translate into the Sox owner injecting some extra cash is another matter. As for the Chinese Owner, it will be managed very differently and not sure if fans will like it but they are pretty much very hands on guy, so, may not be a good idea. Anyway, will wait and see but i'm sure both are richer than the two c'unts we have right now.

Good news at last. Another american owner... but we shouldn't have prejudice... for all you know they might just be good owners... The first step is that they pay back all the debts and invest in players... the stadium can be the 2nd step...

To say I am unhappy about this is an understatement he made his money through Hedge funds and is a master at it.  His net worth is 800 million to make us successfull atleast 1 billion needs spending. This is out of the frying pan and into the fire.

It's not the same.  The draft system is a totally different animal to how it works in football.   A franchise in American sports is pretty much guaranteed to generate significant income no matter how the actual side performs while in Football it’s not like that.   I wouldn’t look at the success of the Red Sox on the pitch and use that as a barometer of how he would fare with LFC.

This club requires significant investment.  We are talking hundreds of millions pounds and while I be as happy as anyone that the current idiots will be gone I don’t just want some rescue package where the majority of the debt is cleared but then the club is left basically treading water.

I also share any concerns, but what would you rather, tread water or drown ?

Hello everyone, I've been a Boston Red Sox fan my whole life and I thought I might give you some insight about John Henry. :)

Overall, he is a fabulous owner. The Red Sox have the #2 payroll in baseball. He is not afraid to spend money...but he doesn't spend money like a drunk sailor. His General Manager Theo Epstein is always trying to get the most value for the money. Since Henry's group has taken over, the Red Sox have become a powerhouse and won 2 World Series (2004 and 2007) after not winning one since 1918. They are usually in the baseball postseason playoffs, and only missed by a bit this year because the team was decimated by injuries.

The stadium is Fenway Park, the oldest in baseball, built in 1912.  There was a lot of talk about building a new park, but they decided to revitalize Fenway. Lots of new concessions, bathrooms, etc. The Red Sox currently have the longest sellout streak in history at over 500 games in a row.

Henry's a very good man, a little quirky, but nice. He apparently is quite rich - a self-made made who is an expert at stock trading. Not only does his group own the Red Sox, but they have the very profitable regional cable New England Sports Network (NESN) and own a stake in one of America's top Nascar racing companies (very popular in the southern US, not so much here in Boston).

Speaking honestly, I think you'll be happy with him if these rumors are true. Your only reservations should be 1) who will run the football operation, as I don't think he's a football expert, 2) the Red Sox have the highest ticket prices in Major League Baseball - will the same be true at Liverpool, and 3) does he have enough money to match the insane owners that are in the Premier League?

Overall though, he's a good businessman, very smart. His co-owner is Tom Werner who made his money in television (owned the Cosby Show, Roseanne and others). The President is Larry Lucchino, a very savvy baseball man. And the rest of their management team is great too. They are considered to be in the top echelon of owners in baseball.

If you want to investigate, here are some good links:

The main Red Sox forum:  Sons Of Sam Horn

The two Boston papers: http://www.boston.com/sports/

The Red Sox: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=bos

The Fenway Group: http://www.fenwaysportsgroup.com/

A video about how old Fenway Park has been renovated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcCfmaq7wXI

And here's a long interview with him in 2004 which can introduce you to him: http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/1113

I confess to only knowing a little about football. I follow the Premier League a bit but am a child in terms of knowledge. But I am aware of your frustration with your current owners. I just wanted to reassure you all that Henry and his group would certainly seem to be an improvement. They are liked by 95% of the fans here, which isn't easy, as the Red Sox are rabidly followed and critiqued, arguably as much as their famous and more historically successful rival the New York Yankees.

Good luck. I'll drop by again soon.  :)

DIC where 5 minutes away from owning us 3 years ago, lets hope this one goes the same way and someone richer comes in.

you see now this is the main problem.

buy us, clear debt, build new stadium, invest in the team etc - All adds up to a cool £1billion. This guy just doesnt seem rich enough to clear debt, build stadium AND invest in the team. Something will have to give!
