Rights or wrongs of buying him. The lad is 400% over his real value. Not his fault i know. But, Jesus, he cant defend for toffee. I'd give him a rocket up his :censored: and play kelly there for a few games. Not going to happen though. He'll probably up his game at old trafford, like he seems to do against the better teams. But, if he doesn't lets blood kelly in. Johnson could possibly go as a more orthodox winger. He'd be able to dovetail with kelly when o\he overlaps.

Buck up glen. Or you need to go

what does that tell you that he performs better for england than us. He knows he wont be winning anything with us this year and wont be playing in the champions league for the next 2 seasons. You can tell by his body language he aint happy i bet any money hes sold to man city next summer.

if we get 17 million for him then i'll drive him there myself.

He's a good player, but we paid well over the odds for him and he's playing the worst he ever has in a red shirt.

I have been dissapointed with him this year so far, he is so sloppy sometimes.
The hair? you have to wonder what he is thinking about to be honest.

yep - agree with most.  been poor this season so far but he does have quality.  I'd drop him for a bit, let Kelly play the derby and Man U and really feel the heat of a big game; see what he can do.  Give Johnson a chance to think about his position too.

Benitez should never have been allowed to waste that much money on him in the first place. The world and his wife thought the asking price was OTT.

But, either way, Johnson just isn't doing what he's capable of.

I agree with others here. Drop him for Kelly...or move him out of defence and onto the wing.

I actually think he is a good player but you cant play that badly and expect to be in the team the next week.
I would play Kelly and see if that gives Johnson the kick up the erse he clearly needs.
His hair is terrible Fauxy, and he spends half of the game fixing it. If i was Roy i would be telling him to get it cut.

Agree with all of this Ben , and it just shows you how much Mascherano was covering his ar.se and how much work Kuyt does in tracking back and helping him out , its really starting to show at the moment

Just wish the lad would get a heaband that actually stays on or or short of that get his bloody haircut. Spends half the game :censored: about with that bit of string on his head when he should be scampering up and down that line making tackles and putting over crosses. Aside from his hair issue hes a decent player Johnson  :)

From Phil Thompson:

"WHAT is it they say about great minds thinking alike? When I read a piece from my fellow columnist John Aldridge on Tuesday, it was as if he had tapped into my thoughts.

John, of course, suggested that Liverpool’s play needs to be a bit more adventurous in the coming weeks, by pushing Glen Johnson forward and reshuffling the midfield to lift the gloom that has been hanging over the club.

I couldn’t agree more."

I think i agree with Phil and John here.  Johnson should be giving a chance at RM.  He is a poor defender but he does seem to have a lot of qualities.
At Portsmouth, i believe he played as part of a 5-3-2 formation were he focused more on getting forward.

Johnson has been a right midfielder playing at full back for years if you ask me, and I am absolutely certain he would go well there. More to the point (and I can't believe I'm saying this) but it would give us the opportunity to move Dirk Kuyt up top and play 4-4-2. I really think Torres would benefit from Dirks industry right now, and it would give us someone to hit from the back.

If I am honest the form Johnson has been showing lately I think he's been masquerading as a player..... period
it is essential Kelly begins his first (all being  tentative steps ) at right back because its been obvious to those of us who recognize a capable defender as oppose to a culpable one this is the position he belongs ..... to be honest I don't know how productive Johnson will prove when moved forward ....but I do know that as a distinctly weak link in our defence his inclusion is having a detrimental effect especially on the confidence of the team as a whole .....

Wing backs only work if they a) overlap and get crosses in and b) get back and stop crosses coming in.
He has been doing neither effectively. I agree about trying 4-4-2 with Johnson as right mid as he obviously cant cope as a wing back

Why doesn't he stand goal side of the attacker at crosses? and behind them so he can see man and ball. Krap defender

What's wrong with this lad?  He's playing utter rubbish all season.  Total, utter rubbish.  £17m for him.  £20+ for Aqualani (remember him?), Keane, Meirelles, the list of big money flops goes on.  We got stitched on Johnson.  One good season with Portsmouth and we splashed out a fortune for a guy who can't defend.  I was totally fooled - thought we'd had a good one come in.  F**k me, I was wrong.

You should have listened to me. I said it was a krap purchase at the time and got slaughtered here for saying it. Sadly,  I am proved right again.

He cost us another goal today.

The owners are "insert swear word" but they gave 38m to the last guy to squander and now Roy is stuck with a squad of chumps (plus acqua in Italy)

The balance of the whole team is shot to hell mate, Lucas and Poulsen offer no cover to the back so obviously our back 4 are going to get exposed more.
