Just like Johnson. Now playing further forward, Bale can play more freely and causes defences all sorts of trouble. Just like Johnson could do.

With that, I would move Carragher to right back and move Agger back into central defence. Win new players unlikely, the team could do with a reshuffle. Just my suggestion.

Johnson will not be given the same freedom by the opponents if he is deployed as a right winger.

Agree with Glenn at Right mid but don't agree with Carra at right back. He doesn't have the legs to run up and down the right side all day. He would easily be skinned by a pacey and tricky winger.

I almost agree, I would move Johnson further forward bring Kelly in at right back.
Less disruption the better.

I think we are at the stage where it's worth a try , we have no width at all and the City game just proved that even more.

Its a fair criticism, but for me I think many are too harsh on his defencive capabilities, sure he ball watch and his positioning isn't one of his strong points, but he still throws in a tackle and out muscles most wingers in the league. Against Arsenal, he had the best of Arshavin and completely marked him out of the game. I think he is a good full back and I think he we could see the best of him if we had a right winger who is dynamic as he is to link up.

And the expectation levels on output/end product will be higher than at RB. Personally I'm not nearly as optimistic as plenty on here, and elsewhere, that Johnson would work as a winger. It's the usual "solution" when a full-back isn't as good defensively and does pretty well going forward. But don't forget if he was good enough to make it as a winger, don't you think a coach or manager would have made that conversion by now? Players don't end up in their positions by accident
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

It's never too late for a player to change position. It's worth a try in Johnson's case because we need more quality going forward. If it doesn't work out, just revert him back to his original position. No harm in trying. Something has to be done about the glaring lack of quality in the team.

haha,

i just knew you'd pop up as soon as somebody mentioned putting him in kuyt's position. seriously, what is it with you?!?!?! hahahaha

i also agree he'd contribute more on a galactic scale than dirk 'the-liability-in possession' kuyt.
we've only won it 5 times

Bad Bob wrote:While I agree he's probably not worth 18 million (very few fullbacks are, in truth) I think he's much better than "average".  When on his game, I think he's the best right back in the league and, like Zidane, I think way too many people incorrectly dismiss him as a defensive liability when he's not.  To hear some tell it, we leak goals like a sieve when he's on the pitch, which is not the case at all.  Add to that the fact that the lad brings so much to our attack and I'd say we're fortunate to have him in the team.  It baffles me to no end that others don't rate him, it really does.

Completely agree mate.

Do you honestly think we are down to ten men when Lucas is playing? Do you? Lucas had a sh*t 1st half tonight but played well in the 2nd. Unfortunately for Lucas, he plays an unglamorous role in the set up of a team and gets f*ck all thanx for it (at least off your type!). Just because he comes from Brazil doesn't mean we are expecting the next Pele or whatever. Can't you d/heads get in to your heads that he plays a midfield role that will rarely get any accolades. He does what he's paid to. He'll even cut your defence apart and you'll have to bring him down for a penalty!
