For those who've said they can't vote on SOS issues because they can't get to the meetings:

The vote is online.

Dear member,

Liverpool Supporters' Union, Spirit of Shankly are holding an EGM tomorrow, Saturday 25th September 2010 (click here for further details).

There are six resolutions on the agenda that we are asking members to vote upon. We are asking members to submit their votes for each resolution online. There will be no voting at the meeting.

Voting will open at 10am on Sunday 26th September 2010 and will close at 10pm on Tuesday 28th September 2010. Members can vote via the following URL; http://www.spiritofshankly.com/vote/

At some point on Sunday a full video from the meeting will be available to view on the news section of our website.

In order to submit a vote you require your Membership Number and a unique 6 digit pin code.

Your Membership Number is and your pin code is

Once you have submitted your vote choices you can not change them. The results will be sent out to members on Wednesday 29th September 2010.

Actually wasn't - more at those that haven't signed up, because a few said they wouldn't because they couldn't vote - this system is much more inclusive, means I can have a say myself.

Why seeing Hicks caught with his begging bowl out sums up the malaise killing Anfield

On Wednesday afternoon Liverpool chief executive Christian Purslow did his best to paint a rosy picture of life at Anfield.

Liverpool, he said, was not going bust. Liverpool, he said, still exists only to win trophies.

A few hours later two pictures emerged which were closer to the truth. In New York, owner Tom Hicks had been snapped outside an American bank, begging bowl in hand, like a Great Depression hobo asking a buddy to spare him a dime. Or rather £300 million to keep the creditors from his door.

So much for not going bust.

At Anfield, a team containing five players who went to the World Cup were knocked out of the Carling Cup by a Northampton team 17th in the old fourth division. This was Liverpool’s single best chance of lifting a cup this year, and they had a single effort on goal in 90 minutes.

So much for still existing to win trophies.

Here’s a serious piece of advice to the Liverpool hierarchy. If you want to be completely honest about the situation at the club you run, take down that world-famous sign in the players’ tunnel and replace it with one that says THIS ISN’T ANFIELD.

Because right now it isn’t. And it hasn’t been for some time.

The club has been dragged into a quagmire by absentee American leeches who have sucked all life from it. Anyone visiting Anfield today can smell it, hear it, sense it with every bemused look, resigned groan and pessimistic conversation. It used to be a proud bastion of invincibility. Now it’s got the feel of a prisoner-of-war camp.

That result against Northampton, like the limp submission at Old Trafford came as no surprise. The negativity hammered into fans after years of reading about leveraged buy-outs and despatches from a civil war, has travelled to the pitch.

It hasn’t been helped by the resentment from certain players assured world-class colleagues would be brought in to help win trophies, who saw for the fourth transfer window running, no net spending. All because every spare pound is going to pay off the crippling interest on debts that the owners promised they would never put on the club.

When a fish rots from the head it takes every part of the body. It’s why all energy and ambition have been drained from every paid-hand and paying punter.

For too long Liverpool has been riddled with greed and poison, lies and incompetence, delusion and illusion. Replacing Rafa Benitez with someone who wouldn’t kick off about the conditions he has to work under, was one such cruel delusion. And you can see it in Hodgson’s body language. He is at a complete loss to explain the crippling malaise.

Briefly this summer optimists dreamt of a new era. Hodgson said the right things as did Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres said they were going nowhere and the chairman said a buy-out was imminent.

But behind the scenes the UXB carried on ticking. The Yanks were manoeuvring to stay in charge and the manager was being told to shop at Aldi.

The tipping-point in this lamentable saga, which dates back to the criminal dereliction of duty by the previous regime, has arrived. If Liverpool are to remain a force in the game, next month has to see the end of the Hicks and Gillett era. If they are allowed to re-finance, Liverpool as we know it, will be finished.

A sit-in protest has been organised by the Spirit of Shankly after today’s game. Every fan, regardless of whether they agree with the union should support it.

If only to show that the club may be on a life-support machine but its heartbeat is still there. If only to remind any banks willing to prop up Hicks, the fury they can expect.

If only to show there remains one part of Anfield that still is Anfield.

I don't think it's a brilliant article at all. All of Reade's meanderings are lapped up by most people on here, but they all basically represent the same train of thought.

How the feck can in be a "limp surrender at Old Trafford" when you come back from 2-0 down to 2-2, eventually losing 3-2 to a winner eight minutes from time? Fecking ridiculous statement.

And "replacing Rafa Benitez with someone who wouldn't kick off" is a piece of sh!t too. Rafa had to be replaced by somebody because the players didn't want to play for him anymore. I don't thinkit was a pre-requisite that the bloke we got in didn't "kick off", but it is quite refreshing to see the ownership issue not used as an excuse every time we lose.

Ridiculous article IMHO.

Are SOS onto this with Purslow after all in principle it achieves two mutal aims.

Reg most of the stewards are turning a blind eye to things like this, when that "make it happen" thing was going to happen some stewards even gave the best loaction to walk onto the pitch and the it known they would not stop the fans if there was a lot of them.
