Completely disagree with this. Kelly is too young to be a regular first team member. We've all seen what happened with Insua. In my opinion Kelly has all the attributes to become a top class center back but will take couple of years to really shine. He is Liverpool's version of Chris Smalling.

I was expecting Arshavin to skin him quite a few times but I think it only happened once that I can remember and he took him out of the match for the most part. He put in his fair share of defensive shifts last season as well. I think he just lacks the intelligence and focus at times and it puts him in bad positions. Hopefully Roy can help him out with that, for me he has all the tools to be world class but I'm not sure if he can put them all together yet.. and I'm not sure if he ever will. His awareness just seems to come and go at times, and I dunno if he'll ever get that down.
All in all I believe he's a top class attacking full back and I don't quite understand the desire, by some, to get him out of our back four. I think if we had CBs with the pace to cover more effectively for him we wouldn't be so upset about him leaving lots of space for Carra to cover, and it wouldn't be a big issue.

Its the price tag. It was a ridiculous amount to spend on an average full back. And its this in which the judgements come. Myself included. I said at the time, and I stand by it now. He is not worth £18 million. Consider that Finnan cost us just £2.5 million and was reliable. Johnson isnt reliable. He is hyped up, but not reliable, and definitely not worth the price we paid for him.
