Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'm guessing we will never know if gerrard etc wanted the manager gone and it will always be an unknown and will be subject to gossip and rumour until the day one of then speaks out - but until then I don't think it's fair to jump to conclusions . As for what I think your alluding to - players playing badly to get manager to leave - is a shocking thing to say and if there is even a single grain of truth then i would rather see the said players leave hue club or shoved to the reserves for the rest of their career . It doesn't matter who you are or who manager is or what your gripe is but I expect and I'm sure every Liverpool fan does - as soon as a player pulls on a Liverpool shirt they must give 100% effort and passion - if they don't they can find somewhere else to play

this sums up Gerrards attitude at the end of Rafa's reign

Yes we have all seen clip many times if he had that attitude all season he should of sat his :censored: on the bench - don't care if he is the best or worst player , he manager makes a choice you still play your heart out . I'm sure it wasn't long after that game gerrard was smiling like a chesire cat after we stuffed Benfica .

Agree with you Benny. This is the quandary I was talking about. I'd obviously like to think that Gerrard was just off-form but me thinks that his star part in our world cup winning team was also at the back of his mind. It really irks me to think that he'd given up on his club season (and the ensuing departure of Benitez), to stay fit for his star role on the global stage. I felt this through most of the back of last season and wanted him gone. To sound a bit contradictory, I still love the guy and can't see the re-emergence of Roy's Liverpool without him.

being serious (for just one moment)

I don’t believe for a second that Gerrard, or any of the other members of our squad for that matter, ‘deliberately’ sought to force Rafa out by playing baldy.

Bad form? Yes.

Bad tactics and decisions? Yes

Combine those and you get low confidence and poor results. Personally, i believe Gerrard would have left if Rafa had stayed in charge. As that clip shows, he had lost faith in the manager and he would have HAD to leave because you can't have that situation at ANY club, regardless of their placing in the table.

Oh and there is no doubt that the World Cup was in his mind - you only have to read his book or watch his DVD to see how high a value he puts on playing for England

I know what your saying but you never know, with the new Gaffer now in place he may put his heart back into his performances. He could have jumped ship in the summer to someone in the Champions league (Barcelona, Inter) but he has chose to stay and that surely bodes well for this season (fingers crossed).

Are you an expert in body language then - are you saying it's a fact that because of that clip it proves he lost faith in manager ? As I was saying only a couple weeks later he looked pretty happy towards the manager during Benfica game . So your using one expression to draw a conclusion ?! As I said no one will know what is fact or true until either Rafa or players say as such - until then it's just groundless speculation .

I wasn't saying he was playing badly on purpose. I was saying his head wasn't right for the occasion! We've all been there (well, sort of!)

As for him leaving if Rafa was still manager - I don't believe he would of left for the same reason he is still here now - no club is going to spend 30 million on a 30 year old . Gerrard is still at Liverpool because he had nowhere else to go

I believe he would have been less happy if we hadn't changed manager. Carra said it was time for a change in manager and I reckon Gerrard would have felt the same.
