There is no doubt in my mnd that if Gerrard had have come out and said in the summer that he wanted to leave, there would have been a very long queue of clubs trying to sign him. Okay, we may not have got anywhere near £30 million for him (because of his age), but we would still have got a considerable fee and anyways, he's staying. Because? The future is bright!

As disappointed with him as I was last season, I'm still made up he's stayed coz that just says that things are really lookin up for us at the mo. Call me the eternal optimist or a glass half full guy but thats how I feel. And I was really pro-rafa.

Can we now just accept Rafa has gone. People can view the facts how they want to suit their agenda. Rafa had good points and bad but he left and thats that. So far I've got absolutely no complaints about Roy's impact at LFC and hope we carry on as we have started.

I can guarentee you this

I will support our current manager and every single player who pulls on a liverpool shirt - i will support them until the day they leave and i will certainly not go down the road of insulting them .

I bet the people who are now throwing the praise onto him in bucket loads will be the first to turn on him and demand he goes . It was evident with the last manager and will be evident with this manager and the next .

As for Gerrard i stand by my opinion that he is still with us because he had nowhere else to go . Aldo said a cracking phrase on 5live one night just as maureen took charge of Madrid - "Gerrard is too old to pay 30 million for but is too good to sell for less than 30 mil " . Am i glad he stayed - too f.ucking right i am as he is our best player by a mile .

All we know is that he considered "another option" that was likely to have been Madrid. That doesn't mean he was desperate to move to Madrid, it means he gave it some thought, and who can blame him after last season's debacle. If he really wanted to go, he could have done an Alonso. Then, Madrid and the player waited it out and they got their wish.

Utimately, all we need to know is that Gerrard is committed and willing to give his all in the coming season. It seems odd that you should have to try and justify such a thing on a Liverpool forum, but anyway, here are a couple of quotes that give you a sense of his mood and where his focus is:

Actions speak louder than words, and Gerrard was excellent against both Rabotnicki and Arsenal. That's all that matters.

Yes agree what he does during this season is all that matters hence why I am delighted he is staying - still think he is just a bit below his usual high standards but that maybe down to the role he is playing currently .

And I will still believe that if Madrid had offered the correct amount he would of gone to them - he has came close to leaving before twice and I think this time if the opportunity has arisen he would of taken it - he was never going to force a move - that's not in his nature and would never do that to he club . Harsh yes I know but it's what I believe .

The quotes serve as an indication of how he's feeling. It doesn't take much common sense to work out the rest.

1) He didn't need to speak to the press at all and he's praised the signing of Cole on at least two occasions. That aside, it doesn't take much by way of reason to deduce that he would be pleased with that signing. Joe Cole's quality is there for all to see. He wants to play with top quality players like Cole because he wants to be successful, and because he wants to be successful, last season's shambolic effort would not have registered lightly.

2) In spite of all the speculation, and in spite of coming close to joining Chelsea, he chose to stay at the club and played a major role in keeping the team competitive.

Like I said, actions speak louder than words so we'll see how he performs this season. If you believe his mind is on Madrid, that's fair enough, you'll no doubt be expecting to see his performances continue in the same vein as last season. I don't believe that's the case and I expect to see him to return to something like his best.

I haven't said his mind will be on Madrid as I expect him to be like be always is and that's fully focused on doing well with Liverpool and once the game starts would never question his commitment or his desire , but also understand him wanting to win more trophies and the play with the best players in the world hence my opinion about Madrid . I'm bloody glad he didn't go and hope he stays fit all season long
