Mr Kenny Huang – Liverpool Football Club
August 2nd, 2010

Re: Liverpool Football Club

Square1 Consulting is acting on behalf of Mr Kenny Huang on all media matters in respect of his interest in Liverpool Football Club.

Saw that earlier. Could all be a PR stunt nan, but to be honest I don't know enough about this guy to make a judgment. Hopefully Broughton has an idea though.

That was stated that in one of the media reports however, lets hope he's not just milking the publicity tít and has a genuine desire to buy the club.

You can see from the preceeding piece of news they are a serious outfit:
'Square 1 Consulting nets Australia World Cup bid role'.

Yer can't really be doing with another H&G situation all over again. Can't see it happening though. Broughton is only in this to earn his big piece of the commission pie and he will need to check to make sure any party is able to fund the team and stadium. And I don't think he will accept any bids based on leveraged buyouts ect.... id be shocked if we end up with another Hicks or Gillette. That's the hope anyway... but I like the cut of his jib so far. Wanting to take over the club before the transfer window, asking Torres to hold of making any decisions until it's complete ect... he's making all the right noises so far.

as i said mate, whay makes a bid, as far as i know there are only two good bids and the rest are well off, one of the good ones is still not up to the hicks asking price.

Its not Hicks's asking price. Broughton has the authority to close the sale at whatever price HE feels is suitable.

Too good to be true. Well, at least it would seem so. We know the Chinese aim to rule the world. Why not have us as one of their flag-bearers? Still, too good to be true!

and thats why i fear that Hicks could still have something to do with the club after the deal.

he still has to had over the shares of the club.....he might not give all of them.

Lakes you were saying a while ago that it's no longer up to hicks and they don't have a say anymore since Barcap came in so it makes no odds what Hicks price is !! So does Hicks have a say ? From what I understand and been informed by a financial expert that the bids are looking to buy the debt from Barcap which will just leave the club in debt to Kop Caymen once they buy debt from RBS . Then they will just pay of the debt to Kop Cayman which is the only money the parasites will get .

Latest from the bbc

Chinese businessman Kenny Huang is one of "several" potential buyers to submit a bid to Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton, BBC Sport understands.

Huang, who is the head of Hong Kong-based investment company QSL Sports Ltd, values the club at about £350m.

But it is understood that as many as six bids were submitted last week.

Broughton and investment bank Barclays Capital, who are leading the sale, will elect a preferred bidder by the end of next week.

Huang has been talking for several weeks to representatives of the Royal Bank of Scotland, with the aim of taking full control of the Reds, who have been up for sale since April this year.

Liverpool's main creditor, RBS is owed about £237m by American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

While RBS has told the BBC it is not negotiating directly with Huang, it is understood he is mounting a credible bid.

Huang is offering to clear Liverpool's debt to RBS, and give new manager Roy Hodgson funds to do business in the transfer window.

However, he wants the deal to be completed within two weeks to allow Hodgson time to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline at the end of August. Any later and the deal is off.

The tycoon also plans to allocate funds that will allow the club to build a new stadium as soon as possible.

Huang is a well-known figure in the Chinese sporting industry and particularly influential in basketball and baseball.

His QSL Sports Ltd company is a partner of America's Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and he is also involved with the New York Yankees baseball outfit.

In 1988, he became the first Chinese college graduate from mainland China to work at the New York Stock Exchange.

Huang was reported to have turned down the chance to buy Liverpool in 2008 because he felt a valuation of £650m was too high.

Hicks and Gillett bought the Reds in February 2007 in a deal that valued the club at £218.9m - £44.8m of which was club debts.

But the American duo have endured a difficult time at Anfield, with supporters regularly voicing their dissatisfaction at the level of debt taken on by the club after their buyout.

Last October, several hundred Liverpool fans staged a protest march against the owners ahead of their Premier League match against Manchester United.

The board's popularity with the fans disintegrated further when Hicks' son, Tom Hicks Jr, became embroiled in a row with a supporter who alleged the American had sent him abusive emails.

As a result, Hicks Jr resigned as a director of the club and parent company Kop Holdings, leading to a restructure of the board.

I just want this to be sorted out soon, so Roy can get a decent budget to buy players before the close of the window

Gillett and Hicks have also endured a fractious relationship with each other, which early on in their reign threatened to undermine their ownership with the former revealing the partnership had become "unworkable".

In 2008, Hicks blocked Gillett's moves to sell his 50% share to Dubai International Capital group as the pair feuded over future plans for the club.

An outright £500m takeover bid by the DIC group was also rebuffed, with Hicks hinting he would attempt an outright takeover bid of his own.

They subsequently patched up their differences but took the decision less than four months ago to put the club up for sale, insisting there had been numerous expressions of interest in a buyout.

British Airways boss Broughton was brought in as Liverpool chairman in April to facilitate the sale of the club and along with Hicks and Gillett is part of a five-man board at Liverpool that also includes chief executive Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre.

There are other issues to take into account>

This has been good business for RBS, they´ve made some good returns on extending teh H&G facility so they would rather have their loan 'guaranteed' rather than paid back by a new owner, ie they dont want to be out of the business, they would want to settle teh ownership and continue to finance both teh working capital need and the stadium long term debt. Why not?

RBS certainly wont sell to just anyone, they've suffered enough bad publicity over H&G and they wont want to go down this route again so they do have an interest in ensuring the new owner is worthy.

With Standard Chartered as our new shirt sponser, RBS will probably want to defend their position within the club and stay involved, especially with the stadium long term finance project.

Broughton has 4 responsibilities: 1 to T&T and the club to max the sale value, 2. to the banks to recover the loans and sell the club as a viable concern, 3. to find a long term worthy owner to allow the club to recover from this debacle and 4. to the fans. Why the fans? Because once it became apparant there was to be no stadium, that we were being milked that Lafa had to sell to buy, it was the fans that ultimately kicked them out - they could have struggled on for 1-2 more years as we slipped down the table.

Its a bit of a posioned chalice for Broughton and RBS, yes - sell the club at the best price... BUT... get it wrong and this baby really will come back and slap yer face.

What for example are their criteria? T&T talked the talk, but how can Broughton and RBS determine which of teh potential bidders will walk the walk and more importantly, be a good custodian?

Not an easy task for sure.

Especially like this part. Will be madness until then with the rags printing all sorts but it really does look like the end is in sight. I just hope I don't see another yank with a shoddy history take power.
