I hope you're right Benny, I hope you're right. We may get a very early test of all our loyalties considering we are playing two teams who definately expect to be involved in the title race in our first two matches. Arsenal seem to annually tank whoever they play on the opening game of the season, while Citeh will no doubt be going all out to win their first Home game, particularly after shelling out about 200 million which no doubt they will have by then.
It is quite possible that we could lose our first two matches. We lost two out of the first three last season and arguably never really recovered, and that was on the back of being involved in the title race the previous season. If Roy loses his first two league games, naturally those who have doubts already will be getting even more jumpy.
Hopefully that eventuality doesn't come to pass, but whatever happens I think it'll take me half a season before I even know whether I think he's doing well overall or not. Even if we win the first two it's not time to get carried away, but nor is it if we lose them. At least he has in his favour this term pretty much nobody (even us if we're honest) expects us to uproot trees, so a draw at Home to Blackburn won't lead to us all getting hot under the collar in quite the same way as it has done before.
I think it's important he, the team and us keep in mind what the target is. Realistically the target has to be to improve on last season, at the outside to get into the Champions League spots and hopefully to go well in the cups. If we keep that in mind and remember we did lose quite a few matches last season too, then we may all be able to ride the inevitable roller coaster of this coming season without OD'ing on travel sickness pills.
It's gonna be rocky I reckon, but I think we might just surprise a few people, maybe even ourselves.
