Lets not forget at this stage words count for a lot, when the club's supporters are nervous as hell re: the spine. To know the manager is proactively contacting the spine.. and paving the way for player confidence in staying, I wouldn't knock it.

It's true that winning fans over isn't the same as winning football matches, nobody is pretending it is. That said, some of us are dying to see Roy succeed and prove everyone wrong.

If Gerrard and Torres stay it isn't because of Roy, neither is it because of Roy if they go. What I'm saying is that obviously Roy has a much better chance of success if he has his best players still at the club.

Here's one for you. If ALL the best players stay, and he brings in cover for Insua and Torres, we have a squad which is good enough to challenge for the title. I don't think we'll win it or finish within two points, but we are good enough to still be in with a shout with a dozen matches to go. Not only is the squad good enough for that IMHO, but the manager is as well.

Always happy to set myself up to be shot at.

"Have your holiday mate and we'll have a chat when you get back" sounds like the right approach to me. In the meantime, let Stevie and Carra get in touch on the mobiles and tell him what a great fella Roy is.

The more I see of the way Roy conducts himself, the more I like him. Very Liverpool.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding his appointment, I  have to admit this grudging respect I have for this fella is starting to grow stronger with every statement he makes ...

I'm starting to like Woy, he might just be able to unite the dressing room. I'm really looking forward to his tenure. Everything just feels fresh at the minute. Good times

I hope you're right Benny, I hope you're right. We may get a very early test of all our loyalties considering we are playing two teams who definately expect to be involved in the title race in our first two matches. Arsenal seem to annually tank whoever they play on the opening game of the season, while Citeh will no doubt be going all out to win their first Home game, particularly after shelling out about 200 million which no doubt they will have by then.

It is quite possible that we could lose our first two matches. We lost two out of the first three last season and arguably never really recovered, and that was on the back of being involved in the title race the previous season. If Roy loses his first two league games, naturally those who have doubts already will be getting even more jumpy.

Hopefully that eventuality doesn't come to pass, but whatever happens I think it'll take me half a season before I even know whether I think he's doing well overall or not. Even if we win the first two it's not time to get carried away, but nor is it if we lose them. At least he has in his favour this term pretty much nobody (even us if we're honest) expects us to uproot trees, so a draw at Home to Blackburn won't lead to us all getting hot under the collar in quite the same way as it has done before.

I think it's important he, the team and us keep in mind what the target is. Realistically the target has to be to improve on last season, at the outside to get into the Champions League spots and hopefully to go well in the cups. If we keep that in mind and remember we did lose quite a few matches last season too, then we may all be able to ride the inevitable roller coaster of this coming season without OD'ing on travel sickness pills.

It's gonna be rocky I reckon, but I think we might just surprise a few people, maybe even ourselves.

I disagree. Words count for nothing at this stage.

Ah, so you're some kind of xenophobic pr*ck, then? "Roy's got an English accent. That makes him a winner in my book" kind of mentality. F*ck off!

I'm just looking forward to some nice football and the last person to give us good decent attacking football was another Roy (Roy Evans) albeit he couldn't pick a defence and he let the players walk over him.Roy Hodgson is a lot more tactically astute though and he hopefully will find the right balance.

He doesn't strike you as the type of bloke who would let the players walk all over him either. Not really an enforcer in the Ferguson mould, more of a schoolteachery type a bit like Wenger.

To be fair Fulham is a tiny club compared to Liverpool. I don't think there are any continental players there with egos, most were probably just happy to be in the top half of the table. Not really comparable with Liverpool mate.

Whats wrong with liking an English accent?
Are you some type of racist who is anti-English?
I never said "that makes him a winner" did I?
Some people like Spanish accents, some like French, some like Irish. Some wierdos even like German accents  :upside:
I happen to prefer the accent of our new Manager.

As apart from English he's able to speak Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, French, Italian and German, I wonder depending on who he's talking too, if like McLaren his accent is subject to random change.
