gerrard also sees liverpool on a slippery slope and incapable of winning anything else significant in the next 2 or 3 years, which would take him almost to the end of his time at the top. he's probably seeing this as his last chance to play for real madrid and for mourinho and its a chance of doing both at the same time. he's won every other domestic honour going and wants to add a league title to his collection. personally i don't see the attraction in just heading to the most likely team just to finish the collection, but sadly it seems that most modern footballers only look as far as their own personal medal collection.

sadly i think he's played his last game for us.

I dunno, I think it's hard to blame him when you put it like that. He loves playing football and he loves to win. He's one of the best players of a generation and deserves to play for a team at the very top level of world football.

I was wondering, feeling wise, would you see Gerrard leaving anything near the Owen case? or the current situation, plus him giving more years (until 30) in this club would make it very different?

Because on first glance, the reasons for leaving seem to be similar: winning titles, and the club not seeming like having possibilities to win titles in the inmediate future.

Interesting one that Sabre, for me it feels completely different.

Owen strung the club and fans on for ages about how he was about to sign a new contract. The club had a policy whereby they renegeotiated deals when players had 2 years left on their contract but because Owen was a superstar they let him drag it out and it ended up costing the club 20 million (he sold for 8). He was two-faced out for himself and he's done it over and over again. Gerrard could have gone at the same time but he stayed. He's in the last few years of his career now, he has led for years, he's entitled to go now if he wants to.

Stevie deserves a title shot.... We won't challenge for the title for another 2 or 3 years, It's sad to say but I feel more excited if Gerrard plays for Real Madrid next season. Let's rebuild and get £25-30mil from him

Stevie is Liverpool's all time greatest underachiever, his medal count: basically a CL and UEFA cup winners medal plus a couple of FA cups is pitiful considering his contribution to keeping this club alive under both Houllier and Benitez. Similar great players within LFC and with other clubs would have doubled his haul plus 2-3-4 league winners medals. What a great shame he'll never get a league medal... may as well walk, he can hold his head high and say he did everything possible to drag the club to the top whether the club deserved it or not.

Didn't he win two league cups as well................? That should add £10m £10k to his transfer value
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

He has done the club proud.

Lets not forget he joined up when he was 9 years old.......20+ years of loyal service to the club and will always be a legend in my eyes. The only problem i see is that if Gerrard goes, Reina, Masch, Torres will follow.

The sacking of Benitez will have probably ensured that anyway. After all it's not like we have the funds to bring in the quality players all those above have been asking for this season do we?

With Rafa out of the way they can raise funds quick to lower the debt so they are off the RBS abuse list for a few years.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Great news for Gerrard/Liverpool and Englands hopes. Ferdinand is a spent force and would have been a complete liability out there. You get a bad back then youve had it and now other complications for him. Good luck to Stevie and hopefully he will be turning out for us next season and not Madrid  :glare:

Losing Torres and Gerrard will be painful but to put another angle on it I guess we could easily have lost those 2 players to Madrid and Barcelona under any circumstances let alone those we are in now. The fact is that these two Spanish giants usually get there own way and can cherry pick footballers from the Premier League. May take a few goes but they get them. Im not saying our problems have not caused them to look elsewhere to a degree but we have to accept that if these boys come in for players you have a fight to keep them. My own opinion is Torres will leave the club but I still feel theres a good chance Gerrard will stay with us and spurn Madrid (which would be a hell of thing to turn down by the way).
