BTW to compare Kenny to Shankly is a massive insult to Shankly

that just shows how clueless you are about the history of this club.
not only was dalglish arguably the best player ever to play for this club in our entire 120 year history (that fact alone would have him right up near the top) he also took over the managers job here in the aftermath of heysel when we were the biggest pariah`s in the history of international sport.
people litterally spat on the floor when anyone mentioned liverpool fc back then.
the manner in which kenny conducted himself (whenever we won something he played the achievement down and always praised the opposition) and the style in which his teams played helped us be accepted back into the sporting fold.
if that wasnt enough in the aftermath of hillsborough he became more of a spiritual leader than a football manager, he became the focus for a citys grief and as manager of liverpool football club he went to every single one of the 96 funerals, sometimes going to 2 and 3 funerals in one day.
he is the only manager in our entire history to win all the domestic trophies.
in his 14 years at anfield as a player and a manager kenny won 8 league titles, 3 european cups, 1 uefa super cup, 2 F.A  cups, 5 league cups and the charity shield 8 times, he also scored the winning goal in a european cup final and a winning goal away at chelsea to win the league title on the last day of the season to pip gary linkers everton to the title.
shanks is the godfather at anfield but kenny dalglish is right up there with him.

You forgot to mention he won the double in his first season in charge. The only one to win it as player/manager...

you are right to point that out thommo, in the sky/prem era because the likes of united and chelsea won 3 or 4 doubles in a decade doing the double in the modern era isnt redarded as a particularly spectacular achievement but back when kenny did it it was seen as monumental.
preston did it in the 1880`s and in the following 100 years only spurs and arsenal won the double.
thats why when kenny did it in 86 it was regarded as huge.

Stop living in the past, Kenny was a fantasic player for the club but even first time round I'm not convinced how good he was. He inherited a fantastic but aging team and did very little to reinvigorate it. His second stitn as manager was nothing short of a disaster on a par with Souness.

as supersub has pointed out dalglish put together one of the most entertaining sides ever seen in the english game, at the time the great tom finney (who was born in the early 1920`s) said our late 80`s side was the best side he`d ever seen in this country.
and dalglish`s second stint was not a disaster, explain to me how getting to 2 cup finals and finishing 8th constitutes `a disaster`.

Sometimes you wonder what enjoyment (if any) people get out of football when they can't even appreciate the achievements of club legends like Rafa or Kenny.

Baffles me

I don't how anyone could be disappointed with the Benitez tenure.

Except of course if someone was hoping we might win the league and not start sliding down the table.

Rafa did well in his first three years then the problems started when H&G bought the club but that's history now.

We all want to win the league and be the best again but realistically it's difficult to compete with the money some of the clubs have. FSG have steadied the ship and Brendan seems to be making good progress so let's hope he gets the money and makes a couple of good signings in January. If that's then repeated in the summer we'll hopefully have a competetive squad but we have to keep making progress on and off the field.

We'll have ups and downs along the way but us supporters need to be just that and support the club, it's no good being so critical every time we go through a rough patch. Managers will make mistakes, players will have poor games, the owners might not throw money around like confetti but as long as we're making progress and people are doing their best, that's all we can ask.

We will remain outside the top 4 unless we stgart winning games against the 'lesser' teams. We can pick ourselves up for games against the better teams but like this game today you had the feeling that the team thought they could just walk on the pitch to win it.
