Quite simply because his departure from Madrid seems to be absolutely immenent and personally I have changed my view as to whether we should put a bid in for him or not. This is due to the fact that Baros also seems to be on his way and further, my oft' stated misgivings about the form of Morientes. I was, despite myself, curious as to whether other people who use the forum were similarly in a dilemma given the likelyhood that Owen would sign for Manure. From the fact that lots of people have replied and given of their opinion, it seems that they too feel the situation has developed and is worthy of further comment. I hope this answers your question.
As to your own opinion of Owen I am, as an avid reader of your posts already aware that you don't rate him at all. I'm also aware that you don't rate Hyppia at all. You've said so in many different ways on many different occasions. You are most consistent in your views and in the way in which you express them. It makes me wonder really why you bothered to answer the thread. After all anybody who has read your previous posts would know what you would say. It is however a forum, which gives you the right to express your opinion as many times as you wish. Similarly, it gives me the right to start a topic on Michael Owen.
With the greatest respect Banana, if you were looking to jump on a pointless and daft thread there have been about 541 in the last 3 weeks that would have been more worthy of your attention than this one.

I wrote that the day Steven Gerrard said he was leaving.

I was thinking about it though and it's true, apart from Steve MacManaman.  Who honestly leaves Liverpool Football Club as a 'step-up'?  It never happens.  The only way is down once you leave Liverpool.  It's not a fact, it's just a supernatural statistic.

Fate does not ultimately say that once you leave Liverpool your career is on the downward spiral, nor on the upward spiral, it's just a quirk, but there has always been this unwritten and unspoken legend that the only way is down once you leave this club.  It would have happened to Steven Gerrard, and - Real Madrid 'The best team in the World' or not - it's happened to Michael Owen.

I feel MO will come to LFC.

Rafa is keeping his cards very close to his chest, someone mentioned he has staed that he does not want MO, I don't think I have seen/read anything categorically stating "I do not want Michael Owen"

As leon said with the pending sale of Baros, owen at 4 million? Yes please   :eyebrow

while rafa has said he is not looking for strikers, he also says he is not looking to sell baros. if and when baros goes surely this means we could do with another, as rafa seems keen to have 4 strikers in the squad

What about back up for Carra and Hyppia? What about a new winger? I know Owen is a good player but at the moment we don't need him. We have to leave emotion out of this or we will be in a right mess. Rafa knows what he's doing.

As well as back up to Hyppia and Carragher and a right winger mate.

We have the funds mate, don't believe the hype;

Money coming in: -

Diara - £2m
Spit the Diouf - £3-4m
Nunez - £1-2m

Total: - £6-8m

Money going out: -

Reina - £6m
Crouch - £6m
Hobbs £0.75m
Sissoko £5.5m

Total: - £18m

Diff: 10m

Sale of Baros/Dudek? 8-10m?

Not to mention extra generated income from Champs League victory (luvving it still :D) circa. £20m

Yes Please!!      :buttrock

Apparently LFC have approached Real Madrid asking to take MO on loan for a season, tied in with a permanent move next year (when we have more funds).  This would make sense as it would then leave money to go out and buy a Center Back and Right winger
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I have stated many times that I don't want Owen back at the club, and I'm not going to repeat the same arguments here that I have typed in other threads.

What I will say is that until Owen or his agent comes out and says that he wants a move from madrid, or until Madrid publically say that he is for sale, then this is all speculation once again and IMO his departure from Madrid is not 'imminent'.

Rafa does not want him, Wenger does not want him, Mourinho does not want him and Ferguson has yet to publically declare an interest.  Souness may want him but he will not move to Newcastle or any other English club I have not mentioned.  Madrid are unlikely to sell him to a rival in Spain and no Italian sides have expressed any serious interest.

I can therefore see him starting off the season at Madrid but wouldn't be surprised if he came back to England in January.  He will give it until then and if he isn't getting a game then with the world cup in mind he will come to England either on loan or permanently.  To which team is the question, and that really depends on how the first half of the season goes for all the big guns.  If Horsey has another injury-ravished season then Man U may go in for him, similarly if Crouch is a disaster and Morientes still hasn't found his form then Rafa may change his mind about Owen.  I can't see Owen leaving Madrid before the start of the season to be honest.

I can't help thinking there is something going on behind the scenes with Michael Owen that we don't know about. I am only a humble football fan without the deeper insight of say, the Special One, Sir Alex or Arsene Wenger but I cannot believe that Owen appears to be struggling to find a club...at £11 million.

Owen is England's third highest scorer of all time, and leading scorer in competitive games, at the age of 25. He has been Premiership top scorer a couple of times and won the European Player of the year in his early twenties. He has been seen as a failure at Madrid despite scoring basically a goal for every start. 16 goals in his debut season in a new country despite hardly starting is very impressive. Andrei Shevchenko scored 21 in all competitions last season and yet seems to be worth in excess of £60 million.

Add to this he is English, very useful and very rare to clubs in the higher reaches of the Premiership. Thierry Henry has long claimed he would love to play alongside a 'fox-in-the-box' so Owen would seem to be tailor made for Arsenal. Chelsea are so short of strikers they have recalled Crespo despite him claiming his last stint made him contemplate retirement and despite him leaving his wife and kid in Italy.

ManYoo have just enjoyed total domination of the games they played in the Far East but some very close games due to an inability to score. Finally, I cannot comprehend why we aren't welcoming the Boy Wonder back with open arms. He already knows the club and most of the team. He would be welcomed by the fans and backroom staff and he has proved he would score for the club. Milan Baros stands on the brink of leaving for £7 million, for that plus £4 million they could have England's best striker, and he would sign.

I can understand why Owen would want Champions League football and that rules out Newcastle (as does the shocking, shocking manager) and Middlesbrough. It is a disgrace that one of England's finest (possibly the finest) post-war strikers should be seen to be struggling for a club. This makes me think there must be something we don't know. Is it the gambling that surfaced at the last World Cup? Does he have trouble with teammates? Who knows, but there must be something. Otherwise, why would Madrid spend £40 million on new strikers with Owen begging for a game?

It seems that Madrid don't consider Owen a "Galactico" but why the hell did they buy him then?

Yeah i have just read this from KOPtalk how reliable are they? I suppose that would be a decent deal for us and Real. We pay his wages but he's still their player next season when we have the cash we will buy. Knowing Real though they won't do it just to spite.

John,

Can you tell me where Rafa has been quoted as saying he does not want Owen.

He has only said his PRIORITY is a CM or a RW, but NOT that he does not want Owen (I will stand corrected if that isn't the case, obviously  :D)
