Since the country's creation in 1971 - a move driven by Sheikh Khalifa's father, the revered late Sheikh Zayed - Dubai and Abu Dhabi have competed against each other for the world's affections, a rivalry that has gone into overdrive since the turn of the century.
When Dubai built its own seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab, Abu Dhabi responded with its own, the Emirates Palace. When Dubai embarked on huge, glamorous construction projects that stole headlines across the world, Abu Dhabi followed suit with plans to build a Guggenheim and a Louvre. Even sporting events have witnessed this economic one-upmanship, with Abu Dhabi setting up a rival to Dubai's PGA tour golf event and tennis tournament.
From the outside, it appeared that Abu Dhabi resented the success of its glamorous neighbour. Dubai's royal family had been so successful in branding the emirate that many assumed that it, and not Abu Dhabi, was the capital of the UAE.
So when DIC, itself an investment arm of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's sovereign fund, tried and failed to buy a Premier League club, Abu Dhabi just had to keep up with the Joneses. Well, the Maktoums.
Buying Man City is as much about putting Abu Dhabi's flag in the sand. The emirate wants to be a global sports hub, and there's no better way of fast-tracking that than buying one of the grande dames of English football.
It is also ample evidence that the world's financial power base is shifting eastwards. But more importantly than that, the capture of Man City gets one over on Abu Dhabi's glamorous neighbours over their Eastern border. And that, they will conclude, is worth any price.
The Shiehk might step it up now Cigg i mean let the Abu Dabs have a Ford Escort when Shiekh Mo can have a rolls
I am pretty close with some of the Sheiks down in Dubai and know alot about how (Dubai Holdings, Dubai government, Shk. Mohammed...etc in particular) run business and i tell you what, iv put that exact same thought earlier as i broke the Mancity news in this very thread. I dont think that its far fetched that the sheiks of Dubai and AbuDhabi would have agreed to buy 2 premier league clubs and battle it out in the big stage to see who can outspend and make a bigger name out of their clubs in X years. No doubt if Sheik Mohammed is allowed to buy Liverpool he'd have a great lead over his AbuDhabi rivals but i can actually see them going for Newcastle if a deal with the Americans is not agreed soon. ManCity seem to be throwing money left, right and center at any and every good player seemingly available atm and the statelments from Mark Hughes and the ADUG representatives seem to sum up the vision and direction them rich Arabs seem to be going about.
Not bein funny like Mate but if your close like you said to the Shiekhs have aword will yeh and tell them its doing my heart no good and to get there finger out an hurry up. Ill even wear a yash mak thingy for them .

hehe.. dont know if you'v ever heard of DEC or know much about Dubai but form what i know ill tell you that a whole lot of research and effort have been put to making numerous bids to them american pair of nuts . If i have my info right im pretty sure that theres contact between DIC and the American for a possible deal but im not sure if the offers have been accepted or not.
They are interested but as i said if the Americans arent willing to sell then i think newcastle fans are up for a treat pretty soon. ManCity fans seem to be enjoying every second of today as well.. Fcking hell the ADUG dude said that theyr going to spend whatever it takes and are going to try and sign the best players in the world. Hughes said that he's looking for a top 5 finish and pushing for a champions league spot by next season and tell you what, with a couple of signings they'r not that far off !

Tell you what though, of all the foreign investors in the UK ours have actually got the least cash, how the f#ck did Parry manage that? Two years scouring the world and you manage to come up with not one but two who are both completely skint.

Sometimes you've got to laugh, I hope we get these Sheiky guys to invest. We're seriously getting left behind now, and when or if they do buy the club the first thing they must do is SACK Parry, the idle w@nker.
