loads of the papers have run the story this morning about how laurel & hardy are allowing DIC to study the books at liverpool fc, in preparation for selling up within the next month. i've no idea what the source is on that story, but owners of any business will only let a potential buyer scrutinise the books if they are ready & willing to listen to offers

Yes, I'm not a financial mogul but I think it's called a "due diligence", and is a necessary step before any take over, a step demanded by the buyer. LFC2007 will know more about this things.

There´s nowt new in any of the stories apart from Manhatten´s joyful news that Paris Hilton will be taking over.

Having been screwed royally by the 2 yanks it will make a pleasant change for the whole Kop to redress the balance.

HICKS DENIES HE PLANS TO SELL LIVERPOOL STAKE
By Martyn Ziegler, PA Chief Sports Reporter
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has insisted he is not planning to sell his stake in the club.
The Texan billionaire claims he is completely committed to Liverpool and has rejected reports that he has invited Dubai International Capital (DIC) to inspect the club's accounts in preparation for a takeover.
Hicks said in a statement: "Reports that I am about to sell my stake in the Liverpool Football Club, or to invite DIC to examine the club's books in preparation for such a sale - like other such reports planted in the UK press in recent weeks by parties with their own self-interested agenda - are absolutely and categorically false.
"The reality is that I am personally, professionally and financially committed to the club and its supporters and that I will continue to honour that commitment to the best of my ability now and in the future."

Taken from Skysports.com

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has insisted he is not planning to sell his stake in the club.

Hicks and co-owner George Gillett have been continually linked with selling their stakes in the club over the last few months.

However, American billionaire Hicks claims he is completely committed to Liverpool and has rejected reports that he has invited Dubai International Capital (DIC) to inspect the club's accounts in preparation for a takeover.

Denial

Hicks said in a statement: "Reports that I am about to sell my stake in the Liverpool Football Club, or to invite DIC to examine the club's books in preparation for such a sale - like other such reports planted in the UK press in recent weeks by parties with their own self-interested agenda - are absolutely and categorically false.

Now from the Echo...

DIC 'close in' on George Gillett's 50% stake in Liverpool
Feb 26 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

DUBAI International Capital may own at least half of Liverpool Football Club within the next three weeks.
After months of negotiations George Gillett has reportedly indicated a willingness to sell his 50% stake in the club and a fee is believed to have been agreed.
A specialist team of bankers and solicitors have been put in place by the investment arm of the Dubai government as it awaits permission to study the club's books.
That permission is expected to be granted in the next couple of days and should everything be found to be in order, DIC could complete the deal with Gillett, who is ready to relinquish his stake having had a massive fall-out with Reds co-owner Tom Hicks.
The relationship between the two Americans has reached an all-time low and Gillett believes it is now beyond repair.
Hicks, though, is not prepared to give up his stake in Liverpool and DIC are prepared to enter into shared ownership with the Texan, in the short term at least.
Hicks has expressed a desire to retain control of the club but DIC are not interested in being a silent partner and want to start making decisions regarding the club's future as and when they complete the proposed deal with Gillett.
Hicks had tried to secure the funding to buy Gillett but with the credit crunch biting hard has been unable to do so and is now resigned to the fact he is likely to have a new partner shortly.
DIC are also looking to buy part of Hicks' stake as they look to secure a majority shareholding in the club, which they tried to buy outright last year.
Despite losing out to the Americans in February 2007, their interest has never faded and they have now successfully negotiated themselves a position which could see them take part-ownership by mid-March.
Should that happen, it would, in all likelihood, be greeted with enthusiasm by Liverpool's fans after a series of protests against Hicks and Gillett.

The denial from Hicks doesn't really surprise me as we seem to stuck in a bit of a groundhog day at the moment. Every few days we're getting 'new' stories of DIC being about to take over from Hicks & Gillett and within in a few hours good ol' Yosemite Sam is off on another denial issuing frenzy.
What is different this time is that the stories are now saying that Gillett is deffo selling his 50% stake to DIC. Whether this is a new angle from the press to get some legs out of the story is unknown but the fact that Gillett has seemingly fallen off the face of the planet and isn't denying these reports as yet does still give us hope. As Hicks' statement points out, HE isn't preparing to sell HIS stake and HE isn't about to let DIC inspect the books. He doesn't say Gillett is about to do the same.

We may not be as close to paradise as we may have thought we were this mornin(if you believe the national press ???) but we are closer than we were 24 hours ago IMO (that being based on the fact that the Echo are now going with a very similar story  :D ).

my feeling is that Hicks is a greedy :censored: and he'll try to hang on to his share to see if he profits more in the future... with DIC in the picture he won't have to worry so much about the club's financial situation... that's what I think but I don't know how the ownership and liability sharing really works...

Bottom line Hicks is a business men, and if they get the kind of profit being reported then a very clever buiness man as well, despite the fact that he's a complete d1ckhead

I have been saying for ages that this deal will go through, everyone just needs to relax a bit, Hicks will sell out becuase DIC will make him an offer he can't refuse, but it might take a while for him to completely sell up, in any case if he is a minority shareholder then so what, he won't have the ability to upset the applecart any more.   :D
