Check the Dallas papers on the net and search under Tom Hicks. He´s no pussy this lad and if Rafa calls his bluff, Rafa will lose. Thats how people like Hicks have become successful businessmen.

As it turns out, Hicks wasn't any crazier about the Stars' failure to add firepower in the off-season than disgruntled fans, players and media. "Disappointed," is how he put it. When Columbus called asking about Armstrong's availability, the owner discussed the possibilities with his GM. Ultimately, Hicks said, "We decided to go forward."

But Hicks' doubts had been building, and not just about the roster. He wondered if a once-model organization had gone stale. On nearly any question about the Stars, he normally would have consulted Jim Lites. Or talked hockey with Armstrong. But Armstrong sensed some distance from the owner lately. Lites didn't get a call.

"I just wanted a more objective viewpoint," Hicks said.

So he went outside the organization, to a couple of friends in the NHL. And he talked to Mike Modano.

The preseason confab between Hicks and his star player couldn't have helped Armstrong's cause. Hicks wouldn't reveal what was discussed, but you don't have to channel Don Cherry to imagine where Modano stood. Armstrong was behind the decision to rip the "C" from Modano's sweater. He traded Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner and dumped Darryl Sydor, all vital parts in the franchise's success, all friends of Modano's.

Armstrong also represented a system that had always asked Modano to sacrifice and never played to his strengths. And when Modano desperately needed help to carry some of the scoring load, Armstrong in effect told him he'd done all he could. The former captain would have to shoulder the burden on his own.

it comes across as the yanks don't want to spend and that will keep us behind your man u and chavski every time....... alot of this will be over masha and the need to keep him, he is a world class player who loves it at the club and wants to stay, but the yanks have said no at the moment and that is p!ss!in rafa right off

arsenal have a different approach but liverpool fans don't want to go down the slow route of building a team ,99 % think just because we bought torres we should win the league

i would be GUTTED if we lose one of Europe's best managers, as it would signal finally that we are small time pretenders on a world stage and that history is exactly that

there probably is money to spend but i imagine they are loathe to pay 22 million for a substitute or for someone who will spend time out the team in some ludicrous rotation policy

Personally I hear Hicks is not a big fan of zonal marking either.

They gave Rafa a lot of money in the summer for players like BAbel, if Rafa can't mould them into a winning team it is his fault. The owners are right - you can't just keep throwing money at it, if you spend big money on players they should be able to do the job - and play 2 games in a row without a rest. Wait for it, if we drop points against newcastle, the england game (or the ref) will be to blame.

Rafa's getting well and truly shafted here imo. I've just read te full artical in the echo by Tony Barrett. It seems to me that rafa is trying to get the january transfer window sorted ,so we can be in prime position to make our moves ,and the yanks have basically fecked him off. He needs to get things up and running regarding transfers in and out ,otherwise we will lose out AGAIN like we have in the past.

No one but no one is bigger than the club ,but if this ends up with the manager leaving right in the middle of a title challenge (because make no mistake about it,it's that serious) we will be well and truly fecked. We will move on i'm sure , but it's gonna have serious reprecussions for the future.

Get the yanks over here now and get it sorted pronto.
