Yep. Just tell Stevie he has 2/3 years on his contract left. If he wants to go after that then let him go but for now he has a contract.

Then watch him not perform and cause problems for the last two and a half years of his contract? If he wants to go now, I'd sell him for a fee of £30m. That's the sensible option. We would have gotten a lot for Michael Owen had we taken the same attitude with him instead he ran down his contract and left for next to nothing.

I would be saying the same thing to Torres as well.. In fact anyone with 2 / 3 years left on their contract I wouldnt let them go this summer.

We have to let whoever the new manager is a fair crack of the whip and to do that we need to keep our best players in the team.

I know its not great keeping players who dont want to be here, but this is a unique position we are in.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Unfortunately players have too much power these days though.  And he wouldnt play well if his heart wasnt in it.

Also, If mascherano's agent can be believed, our board are more than happy to listen to offers for our top players.

Id rather let him rot. It's not like any of the money is going to go towards new players anyway. If Real offered someone decent in exchange maybe but we all know where the money is going to go.

It would be unfair to punish Steven like that, I'm not his biggest fan, in fact I think he is whopping, great, uneven pair of droopy, saggy maggies, but he has done a lot for the club in twelve years and if he wants I sure as hell wouldn't hold it against him. I'd be disappointed, but the fact is we'll have to face up to reality of not having Steven Gerrard as he enters the final third of his playing career, I'd sooner face that reality now then later.

@ Bav, earlier you made some comment about how the revenue from Gerrard's sale, wouldnt go to buying new players. that, as we all know is merely an opinion as its not a fact. however, assuming you are correct, and the money does go towards reducing the debt, isnt it a good thing?

If he wants to go then i would understand. Wouldn't want him to leave no way but its understandible he would want to win some major honours.
