Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

You know i think he should firstly retire from international football. Lots of his injuriea have come from playing pointless friendlies.

Secondly in my opinion we should chuck him in at centre back !......... The lad can play anywhere on the park, we have all seen that over the years, he still has a little bit of pace, his passing will never leave him, he is the ideal player to link our defence to midfield.

He could still lead this team for a few more years then.

He has had a lot of problems with his groin over his career and many operations no doubt, medically speaking that area must be a real mess (in terms of scar tissue etc). Maybe there are no ligaments left to work with.

Will probably be my all-time favourite player and I still hope he retires after he wins the prem with us.

firstly, i don't believe Gerrard is past his best. far from it.

Ok, he's a little slower than he was in his early 20s, but he's still one of the best players inthe league by a country mile.

He's now got 5-6 months rest, in which time they can source the injury and deal with it.

Agree with both Kazza and Kewell.

Stevie is the reason I am a Liverpool fan, and it will crush me when his time comes.  I really hope he wins the prem with us because he deserves it more than any other player right now.

This rest could be good for him.  he hasn't rested for a couple of years.  he keeps getting hurt, but he never gets a real rest.  He had the world cup last summer, so he's been playing non-stop since the beginning of the prem 2 season ago, and that's when his injuries started.  He takes this summer to rest and get back into shape and prepare for next season, he could be back in his prime scoring 10 goals and getting 15 assists, leading us to the league title next year. :D

Great news on the offical saying his operations been a success, hopefully now he can get a good earned rest and be somewhere near the player he was afew seasons a go. Despite my concerns id really love him to retire with us and prove me wrong over the next few years.

Stevie will play half our games next season and we should plan accordingly - whether as a stand in for the games he misses or as a long term replacement, we need someone of sufficient status to deputise. Got to say though, the fat lady is warbling thru her warm up...

Yeah, that groin has to be close to completely giving out, past four years or so its been the same exact issue.  We have to stop depending on him so much or well end his career earlier than any of us would want.

The guy has carried the team for so long now he deserves a good break from football! The rest of the highly paid hacks in the team should work a little harder to ease the burden on Gerrard.

I think the term "expected to return for pre-season training." is a bit worrying.  If there wasnt some doupt would they not just say that he will return for pre-season?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I was thinking about Stevie recently and watched a few videos earlier, man I really do hope he comes back firing on all cylinders next season.  I've criticized him in the past but I've been really saddened by his recent streak of injuries and I want nothing more than for him to come back ready to go next year.  Miss you Stevie. :(

is a pundit on SKy and was asked about his injury.

Steve said he met the specialist today, all's well and he's been given the green light for light training. The whole process is a 3 month layoff.

Alex and Steven Gerrard announce pregnancy
Steven and Alex Gerrard have announced that they are expecting their third child.

The couple, who married in 2007, already have two daughters - Lilly-Ella and Lexi - together. The news was confirmed by Alex in the latest edition of OK magazine.

"It didn't feel real because it was all so quick," she admitted. "It wasn't planned, we were quite happy as we were, the kids are quite independent now so it was nice.

"My first pregnancy was such a shock because suddenly everything revolves around the baby, but with the second you get used to it and you know the routine, so the third should be easy, fingers crossed!'"

Discussing how Lilly-Ella, 7, and Lexi, 5, had reacted to the news, she said: "They're both really excited. They haven't stopped talking about it. They keep saying to me, 'Mum, is it still in there?'

"I'm going to have the girls running ragged. I'll be saying to them, 'Do this, do that'. They're so girlie that they'll love it."

Alex, who is now over three months pregnant, confessed that the news had brought her and Liverpool footballer Steven "closer".

"It's great because he's had loads of time off and we're both really happy," she said. "He's being so nice. He took me away to Dubai and got me a very nice present. He's very caring and is looking after me."

However the 28-year-old said that she expects this to be her last pregnancy: "Oh God, I couldn't have any more, four is a lot - three is enough."

The couple's Merseyside home was targeted in a raid last February, during which armed men threatened to take their two daughters.
