Peter crouch - Something fishy is going on

If Crouch is a "confidence player" then we should have sold him or sell him asap, he won't ever be first choice because he isn't good enough so we're playing rotation with a player who's confidence won't take that kind of role................. Should have sold him as soon as possible after his hat-trick against the goners
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Benitez loses his patience as he tries to cash in on defiant Crouch
By JOE BERNSTEIN
Last updated at 22:12pm on 6th October 2007

Rafa Benitez is heading for a major fall-out with Peter Crouch as he tries to force the England striker out of Anfield in the January transfer window.

The Liverpool manager has decided to cash in on Crouch as soon as possible after confirming that he has a £20 million budget to spend on new players in the new year.

But the player, who has 18 months left on his contract, is determined to stay put until the summer unless he gets the right move for his future.

Benitez's patience with his centre-forward has finally snapped after Crouch's lacklustre performance in the 1-0 midweek defeat by Marseille and he is unlikely to play against Tottenham today.

The manager is irritated by the player's attitude towards his rotation system and his refusal to sign a new deal which would boost his resale value to the club.

Not only that, Crouch is looking for his first goal of the season after netting 24 times for club and country last season. Juventus,Real Madrid, Manchester City and Portsmouth are all interested in the 6ft 7in striker but he is prepared to wait until the summer to weigh up his options, particularly as he would be ineligible to play in the Champions League for another team this season.

Benitez, who has seen his side score just once in five Premier and Champions League games since hammering Derby 6-0, is ready to bring in new blood and Jon Arne Riise is also on the for-sale list.

The Anfield manager said: "We've been working on buying new players since the beginning of September. We do not have problems in the financial area because we have sold a lot of players. We have around 35m euros (£20.7m)."

Liverpool would get back the £7m they paid for Crouch if they sold him in January but the fee would drop as his contract started to run down.

Benitez admitted he was on the warpath following the Marseille debacle.

"We were really bad as a team so the staff and I and the players had to be together. I was really disappointed. And I was angry. But you cannot change anything by being angry. You need to analyse."

I think its got to the stage now where just like with Cisse it may be better if Crouch moves on. It's who we can get in that interests me more now. Anelka is said to be after a new club (yet again) Diego could be a great buy at the right price (£10million) or maybe one of the hundred and one French players we seem to get linked with.

This sounds like typical tabloid bullsh!t.

I very much doubt Rafa would disclose our financial position to the media with regards to transfers.

My two peneth fwiw....

For me, the main problem with Crouch is that the bar has been raised - possibly beyond his reach (no pun intended!).

Torres has come in with Voronin who both display that magic ethic that Rafa craves - workrate. Torres also posesses an abundance of talent to top it off and Voronin has displayed flashes of quality and both certainly seem to know where the goal is. Kuyt also has this work ethic, but whereas the goals have been somewhat lacking, Rafa appears to be able to overlook this as long as the team profit.

Last year, where, for the record, Peter was scoring some amazing goals, such as against Galatasaray and Man U - his competition was Fowler, who, while being class, was possibly deemed past it by Rafa and Bellamy who, while having the work ethic, lacked the discipline and obidience Rafa demands. As such, Crouch found himself more often than not in the starting 11 with Kuyt as this was the preferred 'team' pairing. Chances came and to be fair to the lad, he did put a fair amount away.

Fast forward to this year, however and out are Fowler and Bellamy, both who wern't fancied if we are being honest - replaced with two hungry, keen to impress new recruits that want to be in the team above anyone and gues what - they're pretty prolific as well. Crouch isn't any longer the main man with Kuyt - hell, Kuyt doesn't have the luxury either.

Crouch has ability however imo. He's a fu*king nuisance to play against and also has a deft touch that bings other players into an attack. I'd rather we keep him because he's another string in the bow, so to speak - the catch for me, is that he doesn't match up to the other players overall that we have also. He may feel he has to go to play first team football, but without being disrespectful to other teams and to Crouch, where is he going to go to improve on playing for Liverpool?  ???

HITMAN CROUCH 'GOING NOWHERE'
EXCLUSIVE
By Simon Mullock And Ken Lawrence 07/10/2007

Peter Crouch will not be forced out of Liverpool in the transfer window - even if Rafa Benitez warns him he has no future at Anfield.

The England striker knows he faces the fight of his life to convince the Reds' boss he should be allowed to spearhead the Liverpool attack alongside Fernando Torres.

But while Manchester City, Newcastle and Portsmouth would be willing to pay the £15m Liverpool want in the New Year, the 6ft 7in hit-man has no intention of deciding on his next port of call. Benitez has been assessing new signings weeks before a dip in form ended with the defeat to Marseille that's put Liverpool's chances of reaching the Champions League knock-out stages in danger.

A source close to Crouch said: "It doesn't matter whether Liverpool want to sell in January, Peter is going nowhere. He's already played in the Champions League and his chances would be limited to clubs not involved in Europe if he moved in the New Year.

"His options will be far greater next summer, when he will only have a year left on his contract.

This would be a smart move for Peter, he’ll really screw Benitez over with that one and no doubt he’ll swan off to Man City where he’ll be challenging for the Premiership and be qualifying for the Champions League.
