It was for the 10 games as listed in my last post, 30 points isn't possible anymore

Next 10 league games (corresponding 07/08 results in brackets)

Portsmouth (a) D0-0 : 08/09 W3-2
Man City (h) W1-0 : 08/09 D1-1
Middlesboro (a) D1-1 : 08/09 L0-2
Sunderland (h) W3-0 : 08/09 W2-0
Man Utd (a) L0-3 : 08/09 W4-1
ASTON VILLA (h) D2-2 : 08/09 W5-0
Fulham (a) W2-0
Blackburn (h) W3-1
Hull (a) n/a
Newcastle (h) W3-0

After 6 games :-

07/08  P6 W2 D3 L1 F7 A6 PTS 9 (out of 18)
08/09 P6 W4 D1 L1 F15 A6 PTS 13 (out of 18)

Now four points better off overall in corresponding fixtures than last season, although we really need to win all remaining games to make a big difference. Such a shame we went and dropped points to Citeh and Boro, we'd be in box seat now but for those five dropped points :(

I gather the original order is no longer going to be the order so we'll just have to ignore the Arsenal game.

True.

However if you offered me finishing 2nd at the start of the season, I would have taken. This looks like a strong possiblity and there is still an outside chance of the league title itself (not too mention putting 2 titles between us & ManU).

So it's good, no?

Martin Keown last night on MOTD2 was tipping us to go on and win the league which was nice. It will take a bit of luck in Utd slipping up a bit more but by god we are in with a good chance, a really good chance. If a few more teams give them a go like Fulham did we can win this!

We're still in it, that is excellent. But we aren't in control, that isn't so good.

Not sure if I'd have taken 2nd at the start of the season, that suggests we couldn't/shouldn't challenge for the title and while I'm not a "believer" in as much as I believe anything is possible, I wouldn't take 2nd before a ball has been kicked as 2nd is not much better than 3rd or 4th (all CL places, none win the league etc)

I wouldn't have taken 2nd spot at the start of the season. Yes I thought it was going to be difficult and I didnt think it was a MUST but I would never aspire to second when we have even an outsiders chance.

First place is what everyone wants deep down, surely. Nobody at liverpool should settle for 2nd place before the season has started? Yes I would say well done to the lads for putting up a fight and coming second it would certainly be a step forwards even if only a small one.

4 points over, what, 8 games is it? Anyway it is definately acheivable. I hope Rafa manages the squad well over during the run in. We need our strongest team playing every game in the Premier League untill the dream of the league finally fades away.

Would you take going out of the CL this round if it meant we would have a shot at the title on the last day?

i think the 2 week break is favouring liverpool tbh. the mancs have a fortnight to think about the points theyve dropped and hopefully will be in second place by the time they play again, also villa have a 2 week break to mull over the hiding we handed them and how many times have you seen a team pull out a performance after their pride takes a battering? Tell you what, if Liverpool turn Fulham over and the mancs even draw with Villa, what a feckin finish to the season its gonna be!

I remember in the season of 2005/2006 we did get maximum points off the last 9 games of that season. I don't know if we can repeat that, but Im hoping we do.

The thing is in that season we didnt have the distraction of the CL - hopefully Rafa will just go all out for both competitions and will field the strongest 11 possible bar the odd change - At the moment im pretty happy with players like Yossi,Sami,Agger,Lucas,Dossena and Babel coming into the team just not too many at a time .

I just filled in the BBC predictor for the rest of the season and I have us winning the prem on goal difference and with us drawing just one game compared to Manure drawing three. That might be a bit unrealistic but the way we are playing we might not draw any games. In any case I think it's going to go down to the wire, at least we are in the mix.

If we play how we have been playing for the rest of the season we will win the league. And perhaps even the European Cup.

9 victories from 9 games, no discussion. If we want to win the title we must have the numbers of the champions. The title winners every years have a victories run of 9-10 games in any part of the season. We never did it.
