Moving forward - Now that the race for 4th is over

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

So, now what?

We’re sitting in 7th, 10 points off of Arsenal, sandwiched between Newcastle and Norwich. Quite frankly, our league campaign has been a f**king disaster.

What’s more, Adam, Henderson, Carroll and Downing have become the biggest waste of money in the club's history. They’re terrible players, and amount of money they cost makes their failures even greater than Souness and Houllier's transfers failures combined.

As far as i can see we have 2 options:
A) Give Kenny and his players another 6 months of a new season to develop

B) Bring in a new manager and see if a fresh approach can bring something out of the squad

Of course, there’s the option of Kenny selling his flops, but that won’t happen in my view. It would be admitting defeat and i don’t think he’s prepared to do it.

Personally, i’d say give him and the squad until December...it’s enough time to work on the team over the summer and add where necessary. It's alse time enough to make it plain to Kenny that they’re his players, and unless something drastically changes by the winter then he’ll be held accountable.

As things stand we’re nothing more than mid-table mediocrity and a fortunate league cup win isn’t enough to distract anyone that our team is very poor, and Kenny’s transfer policy is nothing short of appaling.

This season the goal will now be FA Cup but I'm sure we will still be pushing for as higher league position as possible.

6th..7th..8th...does it really matter?  Agree, an FA cup win would ease the pain, but the league form is where it REALLY matters

I would give Kenny some more money to spend so he can build some depth to the squad. I can't see us selling Downing or Adam but they would make good backups if we got in players who could actually perform in those positions. We are back in Europe and we won the Carling Cup and possibly still might win the FA Cup. If Kenny decided himself to step aside that's another matter, but Id prefer him to stay on.

the race for 4th aint over

FA cup
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

We still have a shot for the FA cup, if we win that without getting a CL place then its still a good season in terms of how we are moving forward.

One step at a time people, we fight again next season

Mourinho is the best manager in the world

We appeal to him more than any other English club (quoting his close friend Ian McGarry)

We wouldnt be languishing in 7th place, 26 games played, 30 goals scored, 39pts, and looking at a 57pts end of season total.

Anyone that doesnt want us to have the best aint a supporter of Liverpool FC.

I agree that it is not over but it would require both Arsenal and Chelsea dropping lots of points and us going unbeaten.

Next 4 weeks fixtures -

Liverpool
Sunderland (A)
Everton (H)
QPR (A)
Wigan (H)
Newcastle (A)
Aston Villa (H)

Chelsea
Stoke (H)
Man City (A)
Tottenham (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Wigan (H)

Arsenal
Newcastle (H)
Everton (A)
Aston Villa (H)
QPR (A)
Man City (H)

Whilst I think it is unlikely, we do have a game in hand and a comparatively easier set of games. Being positive we may be able to worm our way back into the race for fourth but it would expect as a minimum our game in hand against Everton to be won and wins in the other fixtures.

A win today would have put us in great position for 4th.  I'm really gutted over this result.  We owned them for most of the match and should have had 3 or 4 by halftime, story of the season.  :(
