The key thing to this season now is a backup striker.

We need a good one because Torres WILL get injured and most games he wont play the full 90 mins. If we are to stand any chance of getting into the top four then the striker is the key.

Left back is obviously a problem as well since we erm.. dont have one   but we can probably get by with a fairly cheap one.

I hope we get Loic Remy, and I hope he is as good as people make him out to be!

I thought it was only the people who were positive were being insulted on here according to some .

Bloomin eck Benny I know we agree on absolutely fk all but just try and be happy instead of looking for every possible negative! Not everybody wants to go to fkg United - Owen did and he has got a Carling Cup medal to show for it!

Not looking for negative - just not getting carried away by one signing . The way some are reacting its like we have the latest big World Class signing and the worlds greatest player has just arrived .

Im keeping my feet on the ground - been carried away far too many times in the last 20 years only to see the hopes dashed and been gutted .

This is a line from what his agent said

“Football is the most important thing to Joe and continuing to play in the Champions League is high on his priorities.”

Did he lower his priorities .

It's definitely a step in the right direction. Haven't had time to read the entire thread so it may have been said before. Surely the first person Joe Cole phoned when he was thinking of moving to Liverpool would have been Gerrard and that surely suggests that Stevie is staying at Liverpool.

Jole Cole is certainly the best free transfer Liverpool have managed to secure in many years and when you consider that Arsenal and Spurs failed to sign him and they have both qualified for the CL that certainly says something about Roy Hodgson's negotiating skills and what is going on behind the scenes at Anfield.

Best bit of news for a long time!

I thought it was Purslow doing all the negotionating with Roy sending signals that the board arent letting him have any sort of control over transfers .... Didnt you know we sold Benny and Insua without his approval and are almost done with signing Remy despite the manager knowing nothing about the player or the deal... Obviously its the same with Cole

If your not looking for the negatives you've certainly managed to come up with a shed full!

I don't think people are getting carried away. We don't know why Cole chose Liverpool but I think we can hazard guess and that has got be good news!

When you think about it is like doing a swap deal for Benayoun and coming out with a 5m profit and a more skilful and (English player).Come on now a few more shrewd buys Roy lad.

Depends on if it is 5 mil profit - all depends on what Coles signing on fee is - plus his wages will be higher as well .

Seriously mate, I'm sure you're a great guy but you don't half come out with some right sh1t. Benayoun also got a signing on fee so Chelsea really paid £7-8m for him if that's the point you're making. A free transfer is a free transfer. End of.

He has faith in our ability to make the CL for the following season. A sign of his ambition   For now he'll just be happy to get back playing regular football again after an interrupted past couple of years. Who could blame him for wanting to do that at the most successful club in English football history, under a steady-eddy manager like Hodgson who is sure to use him sensibly, and alongside players of the ilk of Gerrard and Torres? You just don't get these things at Arsenal or Spurs.

LIVERPOOL FC have pulled off the transfer coup of the summer and agreed a deal to sign Joe Cole.

The England international had been a target for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur but the Reds have managed to convince Cole that a move to Anfield would suit him best.
Cole, 28, must pass a medical in the next 48 hours for the deal to be completed but, as no problems are envisaged, the former Chelsea playmaker will put pen-to-paper on a lucrative four-year contract.

Signing Cole is a clear statement of intent from Liverpool and his imminent addition to the squad will be a huge boost for Roy Hodgson.

The new boss went public on his admiration for Cole following Saturday's abandoned friendly with Al Hilal in Austria but was coy as to whether he expected a deal to be sealed.

"As far as I know, Joe Cole is still a player looking for a club," he said. "I know we've been connected with him, and it's good to know we're connected with players of that quality."
However, Liverpool were determined not to beaten in the race for his signature and had spoken at length with Cole and his advisers at great length to convince him to move to Merseyside.

While Arsenal were favourites at one stage to bring him to the Emirates Stadium and Harry Redknapp made a bold bid to land Cole, Liverpool's persistence has paid off.

Cole, who has been capped 56 times by England, first made his name with West Ham United before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2003.

During his time with Chelsea, Cole won the Premier League three times and the FA Cup twice but felt he had to move on this summer.

Liverpool, though, have promised Cole a platform to showcase his talents and he is expected to link up with other England internationals Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson at Melwood this week.

News of Cole's arrivals has been well received both by his new team-mates here in Switzerland and supporters alike and has given the club the boost they need going into the new season.

Hodgson's next priority is bringing in a left-back, as Liverpool are short of cover in that area following Emiliano Insua's departure to Fiorentina.

Cole's arrival, though, could have a knock on effect for Albert Riera; Olympiakos are keen on taking the Spanish winger to Greece


Brilliant signing ....Joe Cole is a top player and if his signing means Liverpool can finally boot Riera out the door then I will be doubly pleased ...
Just need to make a few  signings where actual money is involved and I will be delighted ... as for the manager I seriously don't know to what extent he was actually involved ... but if he was a major player in this deal then he has surpassed himself with the landing of Cole ,
this Hodgson fella is an intelligent man and by all accounts a gentleman to boot ..and at the moment he is saying all the right things in the right order acting with the humility and grace of past managers steeped in the Liverpool way .... long may it continue
