I think the team were admirable in their persistence, but the number of chances we created in the 2nd half was pretty poor. Beglin going on about how Rafas changes worked for us, I didn't get that feeling at all. Crouch didn't seem in it as he didn't get the service and Torres wasn't completely match fit. I didn't understand why Babel went off instead of Kuyt (obviously someone is psychic) and I was thinking that Stevie had had a particularly uninspiring and relatively quiet game until the moment of genius.

Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely chuffed over the moon we got the 2 goals and I really hope that this is a catalyst to a strong end of season run, but was the lack of chances really down to a fantastic Milan defence? 5 mins before the first goal I was resigning myself to a 0-0 victory and dreading the newspaper onslaught tomorrow.

5 mins make a diffrence between playing amazing but not getting a goal and playing amazing and getting our reward. There wasnt one bad liverpool player on that pitch. Crouch and Pennant came on for   babel and lucas (who were playing amazing), crouch up top changed the match and pennant got 2 assists, how did the sub not work?

God, be happy ffs

T'was more an observation on how perception changes. I am well chuffed as I mentioned, but the discussion board would be a lot lot different if it had ended 0-0 and I would put money on most people expecting and settling for that just prior to the goal.

I think it was a good performance, solid and you are right, nobody did too badly, but Milan hardly tested us the whole game. We were fortunate the red card came and obviously that changed the game.

To use the word AMAZING is a little overboard I think as it wasn't. It went our way this evening and it didn't hurt that the ref was on our side in the first half.

Having watched Saturdays highlights just before the game, arguably we created waay more chances, admittedly against a supposed lesser side, but a side nevertheless who defended out of their skins and won the game with a goal not too dissimilar to Stevies' this evening. Yet that performance was apparantly diabolical....or was the Barnsley performance really amazing?

5 mins before the end we were ending the game with a frustrating 1-1 draw, a replay and looking towards tonights game. 5 mins later the world has fallen in. Our boss is in dire straits, the club in disarray and if we don't win tonight the whole season is a disaster and we'll be looking for a new boss.

Tonight 5 mins before the end, we had a solid game against 10 men that promised a lot more and we finish the evening with 2 goals and an AMAZING performance. Suddenly this could be the catalyst to a good end season run and perhaps some silverware and a lifeline to Rafa.

Hence the comment, what a difference 5 mins can make.

Yeah Barnsley players are going tonight..."yeah, we beat Liverpool, so we'd have got a draw at the San Siro, and took em back to Barnsley and........."

Ha Ha Ha.

as they say..Football, funny old game.

I just dont think Barnsley was a game to get the pulse racing for our players etc.

I reckon they'll be out in force in a couple of weeks time. The 2nd leg will definitely be interesting.

I vote to pack the goal with 10 players left to right and lay crouchie across the top and let them shoot for 90 mins......I reckon we could hold out :)
