I am however expressing the opinion that we have missed out on resigning a great striker and that ultimately Rafa bears the responsibility for that.

WHAT!  :suspect:

How is this Rafael's fault?

Ok so yeah Rafa is to blame that we bloody sold him a year ago to Madrid for a BARGAIN 12 Million EUROS??!!

And then Owen is available again and you expect Rafa to guarantee Owen 1st tream football and pay over the odds to get him back? Sorry, but that would be stupid....

The right decision has been made under the circumstances.

I would have LOVED to have see Owen back, I have NO grudges against him whtsoever....

I trust Rafa 100%, and so should the rest of us, let's move on ok, this saga is finally over.

Cheers!  :;):[/quote]
More knee jerk . Did I mention the sale of Owen last year ?   :no
Do I in anyway shape or form blame Rafa for Owens departure ?   No .

Forget the history , in fact try and concentrate on today . We have missed out on signing a striker who will score more goals than any of our current strike force . Surely our manager has to bear some responsibilty for that failure ? Christ ! Souness managed to convince him to sign for the Loony Toons even though Owen was publicly begging for the chance to return to Anfield.
You have to say this was down to our managers reluctance to REALLY go after him . Thats not BLAMING Rafa , that's highlighting the fact that ulitimately the wisdom of that decision will be Rafa's responsibility .

We should make Lakes the manager.
Mourinho was customizing his flashy blue racing car -- applying the finishing touches of go-faster stripes, aerodynamic spoilers and a fat f@ck you exhaust -- while on his red car, Benitez was trying to glue together a broken chassis, repair bodywork and replace burst tyres.

get your facts right mate , we put up the same as the toons, we did not get owen due to RB telling him that he would not start most on the games and he was not going to be first choice.

Rafa is setting/reinforcing a great precedent in not buying Owen. After the CL final, all of the clubs were probably hoping that Rafa would drop some beaucoup bucks to sign their players. But Rafa is being completely unpredictable and is showing that he is as wily than the "special" one. Any other manager in our situation would try to break the bank to get Owen. But Rafa is not like any other manager. The next time the transfer window opens, everyone and I mean EVERYONE will know that they can't play with Liverpool FC in the transfer scene.

And Rafa is the best manager for Liverpool. I want any of you naysayers to suggest 1 likely and viable replacement for him. There is no point in criticising him if he has been extremely successful and if there are no alternatives.

I wanted Owen to come for his goals despite him being a Benedict Arnold (turncoat). But simply on principle, Rafa was not willing to get raped twice by Real Madrid. JUST ON PRINCIPLE.

And I can't say that Rafa is going to be more successful this year because the CL is a hard act to follow, but surely great things will come. In terms of pure reputation and prowess in the European stage, Mourinho could only wish to do as well with what Rafa had last year.
