I don't think you can call Rafa's failure to get Michael Owen his first major mistake. It's only with hindsight we can tell if it'll be a mistake. I'll give Rafa the benefit of the doubt on this because he deserves the benefit of the doubt on it. He has constantly said that a CB and RM are is main priorities, and it's good to see someone careful on who he spends money on. We may have not made any big signings this summer but we have only spent really a net of about £7million so far. If we can get a squad together that'll finish top 4 this season then I think the season will be acceptable again. It's just a matter of improved Premiership performance that we are looking for. Right now we need to get a steady top 4 team together to keep the CL revenue coming in so we can continue to improve. We also need new investment but until such a time as we get that investment then we can't spend big
“It was my first of the season, my last of the season, my best of the season and the one I will remember for ever.”

Fair comment Sim , but it doesn't take much foresight to suggest that Owen will score more goals this season than ,Crouch ,Morientes and probably Cisse .
Certainly rafa has said all along that his priorities are RM and CD but with less than 36 hours to go where are they ?

I maintain that although not his first priority the failure to snap up Owen is in my eye's a mistake , if you can't reinforce your defence why not reinforce you attack ? How often does a club get a striker of Owens calibre basically begging to join them ? .

I'm not calling for Rafa's head , but IMO he's got it wrong on this one . We'll have to wait a while but I'm sure come December you'll be agreeing with me .

lakes has never been a big fan of benitez. he came round a bit after 25th of may but the feel good effect must be starting to wear off. to be fair, he puts the question across reasonably and it deserves a reasonable answer.

in my view there is no question of benitez going this season. there is no way we're going to have a disastrous season despite the alarming amount of pessimism on the board at the moment.

there's a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth because we having splashed the cash on some big names, despite rafa making more shrewd and quality purchases. we've been beaten once in the last ten or more games and that was due to sloppyness rather than lack of overall quality.

jesus, remember the end of last year? do you feel better now than then? i b.loody do!

Its deja-vu from last August with these Owenite cu.nts.

They started slag.gin off Rafa this time last year and you would of thought that they had learned thier lesson after 25 May

Now these Chavs are back here posting drivel about Rafa

Do me a favour and dont Celebrate when we win more silverware next May without that Midget.

I can't see the problem with Rafa.

So far this season we have been dominating every game, and we haven't been leaking goals either.

We beat Leverkusen and Olympiakos comfortably in friendlies.

We beat Sunderland at home
We controlled Boro away, but failed to score

We won the super cup

We have played many games, and we haven't lost a single game yet. I believe we are better this year than last, but I admit I was hoping for a bit more transfer activity. Still I won't give up on a winger and centre half. What if Benitez has a few aces well hidden is his sleeve, and tomorrow night we sign 2 wonderful players?

If Benitez doesn't make any signings i still trust him and Pako to get our squad damn fit and work a lot on formation and tactics which will make us a hard team to beat.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

We've started off slowly and yet we're still winning easily

the moaners have been talking about "how can we score more goals", this is a not a problem.

A problem is "how can we ever win a match"

Frankly these Owenites dont derserve the success Rafa brings to them.

These cu.nts don't even care that we've been robbed in all this.  Madrid have just made £9m in one year on one of our Acedemy players.

what doesn't the cu.nt Who created this thread discuss this.

we don't sign MO and suddenly the knives are out. we forgot what happened last season. although they were no big names signing, so far, i thought the team played very well. we were very compact and the back four solid. the only gripe we were shooting blanks in front but let give our strikers a chance.

tell you what, let's petition to sack RB and get souness back. he can bring MO with him. i'm sure you will be thrilled then. :p

if you look very very carefully and apply the slightest bit of intelligence you may just notice that the thread was begun with a question, not a suggestion or a statement. stop all the overacting and name-calling, eh? even though i strongly disagree its not an unreasonable question...

alonso losing it..........you have lost it mate
morientes.......champions league top scorer a couple of seasons ago...cnt blame rafa for signing him
zenden.....a free
garcia....has some moments of brilliance aswell as moments of shiteness

basically rafa is one of the best managers in the world rite now.....jus look at his record....sacking him would be the biggest mistake

rafa to win the league in the next three years  :nod

felt let down already? call yourself a fan? is it time for your pms at every start of the season?

so far we won one and drew one and already the knives are out...sure you celebrated our CL victory in May (or were you throwing tantrums and sob in your room kitted in blue?)

Remember how many hard-fought one-nil Chelsea's win at the start of the last season? Yeah we might do with a few more world class players in our squad (and who don't) but remember the same Garcia and Alonso help us win our 5th 'ole big ear' and all this without Owen, who chose to jump ship at the slightest hint of glory elsewhere.

It's easy to second guess and with hind sight, every of our new signings should be a new gem unearthed or a proven world-class talent but I don't think Rafa's record is anyway near as bad as his predecessors.

I suppose you'll start a similar thread if we don't win in the same convincing style you expected in the next 2 games huh?  :veryangry
