Cisse off? - Should we sell him?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

After today's performance against Boro, I think we should really cut our losses and sell Cisse. He just does not look bothered anymore, pulling a long face everytime he comes on, moaning and groaning. Having said that, I'm pretty sure Rafa's keen on putting him on the shop window. With Pongolle waiting on the wings, I'm sure it won't not be a big loss at all.

You may jump on the bandwagon and slag Cisse but the simple fact is he's scored eleven goals this year, as a sub.  If you want to talk about cutting losses take a look at Peter Crouch who has played 20 games and scored once ( the first was the keeper's error, please don't say he intended to score in that manner, the ball went off of the defender)

A striker is expected to put the ball in the net and bring other players into the game.  Cisse has scored some important goals for us this year.  One in the Champion's league and two in the supercup, which incidentally won us the game.  He came on as a sub in that game and scored the first goal in the last twenty minutes to tie the game and scored the winner in extra time.

He runs faster than any other player on the team.  He gets past defenders and on the right side has provided decent service to the strikers, when called upon to play out of position.

He will score goals for whichever team he plays for, it would be a travesty if Rafa were to let him go.  I ask you all who say we should sell him to provide some concrete examples for your opinions.

Cisse should be the starting striker in every game.

It will be a great loss if he goes.

By the way, when are we going to sell Garcia hmmmm? :blues:

Apart from chipping in with his fair share of goals, his lack of teamplay and team spirit is appalling. He lacks a geniune footballing brain and only possesses raw pace, which is not good enough in Premiership level. He does not have decent technical ability on the ball (something Pongolle is better at) and even has a poor finishing  touch despite his healthy goal return (which to be honest most of them coming from the CL Qualifying Rounds, and even those coming against CSKA Moscow Super Cup were very lucky, one was a handball, one was a rebound following a poor shot at the goalie). This in itself tells an awful lot.

Also, you're saying how Crouchie's first goal was unintentional. So how about Cisse's 'delightful' lob from 30 yards out against Portsmouth a couple of weeks ago?

I agree totally with that!

Cisse should stay, and it should be Cisse and Morientes starting, with Crouch coming on in the 82nd minute!

whats the point in selling him in january. His value will be lower as he is cup tied - assuming he goes to a team still in the champions league. I say wait til the end of the season. Also what if we end up having another dreadful attempt at transfers. How is selling another striker going to help?

he really needs to go -- i had severe doubts about him when he came, was won over by the sheer guts he showed coming back so fast but we have to face it - he simply isn't good enuff

spurs want him so lets package him up and get robbie keane and some money -- keane is a great striker , can play in the prem and has flair-- that man will score those ugly goals we need-- he wants out so we should pick him up in any event and simply sit cisse until either a) he grows up or b) we get enuff for him

Most French players are arrogant and he probably picked it up from Henry. Spurs will come back for him, and then we should do an exchange for Defoe, even though I highly doudt that would happen.

Cisse will play for the French national team as a striker and score.  He does in fact score for France.

If there was no power struggle between Cisse and Rafa over playing position and Rafa had used Cisse as a striker in place of Crouch he would have 22 goals by now.

Cisse
1st team games: 50
1st team goals: 16
International caps: 25
International goals: 8

Crouch
1st team games: 20
1st team goals: 2
International caps: 3
International goals: 0

if you compare crouch's 23 games to Cisse's 25 caps cisse is clearly the more prolific striker.

So we have two goals agains Bayer Leverkusen as a sub ( friendly match )

One against Kaunas as a starter

One as a sub against Kaunas

One as a starter against Sofia

Two against CSKA Moscow as a sub coming on in the 71st minute

Quote Liverpool FC TV
Finals are meant for heroes and Djibril Cisse was certainly that as he almost single handedly inspired Liverpool to a third European Super Cup success with a 3-1 victory over CSKA Moscow.

Rafael Benitez said after the game: "This game was made for Cisse to come on and score. I knew the opposition would be tired and with Cisse's pace we knew he could cause problems.

Up until Cisse's arrival Liverpool had lacked a clinical finisher to put away the numerous chances they were creating, especially in the first half.

Crouch started the CL group match against Real Betis and failed to score
Crouch then started against Man U and again failed to score, with Cisse coming on in the 79th min
Crouch started against Birmingham again failing to score, cisse came on for Zenden in the 68th min and scored
Crouch then started a premiership game against Chelsea  Gerrard scored
Cisse and crouch started against Blackburn  Cisse scored we won 1-0 \
Quote Liverpool FC TV
With Liverpool in desperate need of some divine intervention it was fitting that the striker dubbed 'The Lord' should emerge as their saviour.
Having started on the bench in Liverpool's last three Premiership fixtures prior to this one, the French striker was chomping at the bit to impress manager and Rafael Benitez will no doubt have been delighted with his decision to recall him to the starting line-up.
Cisse then started against Anderlecht and scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory
The Frenchman has certainly taken his boss to his word, netting two goals in two games, firstly to give Liverpool a precious three league points at the weekend and then acrobatically volleying home the winner in Brussels last night to take the Reds to within touching distance of a place in the last sixteen of the Champions League.

He was then left out of the carling cup match against Crystal Palace of all clubs,
Crouch starts, we lose.
Crouch starts as against Anderlecht, no goal, cisse comes on for him in the 71st and scores
( is anyone noticing a trend yet)
Cisse starts against portsmouth and scores
Crouch plays 83 min against Real Betis and fails to score
Then we have the Wigan game where crouch finally scores, albeit the most ridiculous goal i've ever seen in my life.

An argument can be made that Cisse has been our most valuable player in the Champion's league so far.  Certainly he is not worthy of the bench.  I fear my friends, that you will regret losing him once he is gone as he will get first team play and continue his prolific goal scoring ways.

:blues:

The only saving grace is that Rafa knows how to put a team together, long live the Pool

Robbie Keane?  do me a favour, he's the sort of player Neverton would go for.  he's not good enough, full stop!  Rafa won't sell Cisse unless we get 10+ million offered, until then, he's going to be used as a squad player and i don't have a problem with that.

Cisses problem is the fact that he needs to feel like the main man before we will see the best of him!
His arrogance and self belief could be a great attribute at the right club if he was playing week in week out.But this will never happen at LFC.There is no doubt the ability is there in the man but the fact remains he sees it as an insult that he is not 1st on the team sheet every week and that overides his performance on the pitch!
His tantrums when getting brought off are nothing short of pathetic and very unprofessional!Any good pro totally respects that the managers decision is best for the team and not an insult to that players input to the game!
Cisse will never change.
Say he was at at team like Bolton or Villa he would be the main man and fans favourite,1st on the teamsheet every week! He would shine their and inevetabley produce the goods.
He will never be the main man at Liverpool.
Benitez does not have time for egotistical individuals that think the world would stop spinning if they fell off it!
I think if we get a good striker lined up in January he will be off but i wouldnt be surprised if he was kept until season end!
Either way i feel he will definately be off soon and i also think it will be in our best interest to do so.
Hes not a Benitez type of player and therefore he's not a Liverpool type of player!

END OF THE BEGINNING
Liverpool Echo

The list of real and false transfer targets expands by the week. Those lucky enough to put pen to paper will be left in no doubt of the manager's professional code.

"The players we need may not be the most expensive in the world. I'm looking for specific types of player," he explained.

"I like good professionals, not what some people call 'star' players. My idea of a star player may be different to others. When I tell Steven Gerrard I need him to play on the right, and he does this to the best of his ability, that defines him as a star player in my eyes.

"I don't like players who only play for themselves.

They are selfish. It's those who understand the needs of the team who are the best.

"It's not my idea of a successful team to have one individual as top goalscorer in the league, winning lots of personal awards as his team finishes fifth.

"There's no point being the best in a bad team. You want to be the best in a good team and collect trophies."

**************************

This is part of an article, but I pasted what I thought was relevant to the topic. It just seems like Raffa is talking about Cisse. His days may be numbered.

And rightly so! We need passion for the team and shirt and 100% every time!
I'll be sorry to see Cisse go but believe its gonna happen soon......sorry because we spent £14 million for a player with more ego than ability!
Benitez knows exactly what and who he wants and it is only a matter of time until he puts the pieces together and makes us great again!
We need to be patient and not judge the manager too harshly when he makes decisions that we cannot understand!
