As someone already mentioned, if our strikers have off day we're in trouble as our defence aren't going to keep a clean sheet.  Exemplified yesterday against Arsenal.

We've really got to add some quality to our defence.

The article is talking as if they found a way to stop us. It wasn't the case. We just didn't take our chances, that's it.

Good article on TIA about the reluctance to use Alberto. Calls into question whether BR either wanted to sign him or rates him. Also mention of the decision to farm out other players like Suso and Borini.

Alberto must be literally not showing up to our training sessions. There's no other explanation to why he has featured so little for us. He looked good enough in his little cameos. Better than Moses and Aspas in any case.

Clearly our defence needs repair and cannot always rely on SAS to bail them out week in week out. In the Jan window, I don't see the logic of pursuing M.Salah and Konoplanka who are wingmen when our first choice left and right backs were on the long term injury list. While another classy wingman would be great to have, but our first choice signings should be the left and right back men which BR totally ignored. Right now we have Cissokho and Flanagan who are not effective enough.

Rumours are spread around that Mourinho is targeting Suarez in the summer and if we don't qualify for CL, for sure he'll want to go there and I don't blame him. Our owners lack ambition and are stingy b@stards.

That wouldn't be terribly difficult to be fair...

Exactly. The fact that the two of those are even slightly preferred by Rodgers should definitely be concerning for Alberto.

Seriously concerned over Brendans apparent lack of concern about our defence.

During the last transfer window all his targets seemed to be attacking players and I've read this weekend that he's targeting the Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as a marquee signing for the summer should we qualify for the champions league.

Meanwhile our defence is about as solid as wet toilet paper.

I give the manager massive kudos for the style he's introduced to LFC and the football we're all enjoying BUT given his footballing philosophy I'm wondering if Brendan has the nous to build us a solid defensive unit On the evidence so far, we're miles away from being able to keep a clean sheet and nowhere near to even having the ability to close down a game when needed.

We can enjoy the footballing show that the team puts on but until our defence is sorted out I honestly don't see us winning any trophies.

The thing is I believe it's not just individual mistakes which is the problem for our defence. As much as our attack is fluid, with players moving off the ball and over-lapping etc, our defence is static. When we have the ball at the back and we want to play from the back, our players are miles apart. And when we can't find a pass forward, we keep passing sideways at the back! Our opponents would then pressure our defenders and then all hell break loose with Skrtle, Agger, Toure and Mignolet all very nervy!

We need to keep the ball and be fluid at the back, keep it tight and retain possession... if you're under pressure, don't try to pass it sideways which is always susceptible to interception when our players are so far apart... just hoof it up!

Like I said in Skrtel's thread, the problem is not down to just individual errors. It's deeper than that. Skrtel seems like a bit of a scapegoat. He's not a great player but it's not all his fault. To me, it's obvious that we have absolutely no idea on how to defend once our high pressing doesn't work (like today) and we just end up being all over the place, with the players relying on their individual skills rather than a team plan.

We're a side that's still building, so this wouldn't have been such a big of a problem. However, after reading that interview in another thread, where Brendan refuses to acknowledge that this is a coaching problem and insists that it's individual errors that are the problem, I'm getting a bit worried.

As I said in Skrts thread, most teams build from the defence up. We're going the other way. Or maybe from what he's been saying, we're not gonna really bother with a defence, hehe. Just attack. Lots of.

If Hyypia gets the chop at Leverkusen, we could do worse than bring him back to sort out our defence.
