Benayoun - Rate him or not?

It's not just lately he has looked good, Did he not get 2 hatricks last season ?, He always looks like getting a goal when he is on rather than Kuyt.

well one hat trick was against havant and he looked good against blackburn - sometime he blows hot and cold - when he is good he looks the business when he is cold he looks out of it and the game passes him by .

No, he's cack. Can't stand him, pushed off the ball way too easily. Sulks when he loses the ball and appeals to the ref....Get rid of him

You're right - I should stop sitting on the fence, I should really speak my mind....

Errrrrrr.....to put it another way....."In my humble but educated opinion, having evaluated all the relevant criteria before coming to a decisive stance on the matter in question - I hereby solemnly declare that Benayoun is indeed, what one might refer to as "MUCK !" "

That clear enough ?

Very frustrating player, he is usually great or very poor, no consistency at all.

Quality players are consistently good, we have too many consistently poor players.

IMO he's another one in the not good enough category.

With Keane now gone, I'd consider playing him off Torres with Gerrard on the right in some games, especially away from home. He's never a wide player but he can open defences up from central areas. Take Torres' goal away at Chelsea in the CL for example.

I agree he's not really a wide midfielder (infact I'm not 100% sure what he is to be perfectly honest) but whatever, he has played about as well in the last two matches as I have ever seen him in a red shirt. He offered much more from the right than Kuyt has for some time against Wigan, and when he came on against Chelsea he offered more than Riera down the left. Now admittedly that may be as much a comment on the two wide lads losing their form as of late, but whatever the reason I think he has done enough to deserve a start.

Neither Kuyt nor Riera could have any complaints about being left out given their current performances, but unsurprisingly if it was me I'd give Benayoun a couple of games at right midfield. I don't really rate him TBPH, but he is definately in excellent from at the mo.

A bit harsh Leon mate.

At leaqst of the two players who had a "moan" about playing time pre-Christmas he's been the one to make more effort to merit his inclusion when he does get a chance.

When playing time is limited - substitute mostly with only the odd full game - mistakes made tend to be magnified, but I would say his contributions generally outweigh the odd mistake certainly in comparison to Babel who doesn't seem particularly interested in improving on his weaknesses or even admitting he has any.

:D I don't know if you're being serious or not so I put the smiley in just in case. As I said, I don't really rate him but a blind man could see that he improved the situation when he came on against Chelsea, and that he offered more than Kuyt against Wigan. By and large I would prefer Kuyt at right midfield (in a 4-5-1, never up front and as long as Alonso and Gerrard are playing) but probably Dirk himself would admit he's not exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment (is it only me who thinks that because it is glaringly obvious from what I can see on my telly).

Whether or not he is a long term replacement for Kuyt is another matter. I would have thought that a genuine right midfielder of even reasonable quality would be a potential replacement for the both of them to be honest, but i do think that Banayoun deserves a go. It's probably worth remembering that although we eventually prevailed against Chelsea with two goals in the last three or four minutes, we had up until that point looked like there was a distinct possibility that we wouldn't manage to unlock the game again. Benayoun probably came as close as anybody when he came on, and deserves a chance I think.

Not a campaign to get him into the team you understand as  don't really rate him, but he's a better bet than the others at the moment.

the fact that he is playing better then Babel (the other want away press moaning idiot before Crimbo) is hardly a measure of his quality.

I am currently putting in better performances than Babel in 5-a-side in hte Litherland boys' club on a Wednesday night.
