Thanks
:)

Was the club on its knees when BR arrived then ?

I think Redknapp took Spurs from bottom half to 4th in a season and didnt spend massive amount

Harry did it in his second season. Most good managers have reached top 4 with a smaller or a mid-table team in their second season, so there's hope for us yet!

Brendan has just been on Talksport but I missed it as I had to go into work. Did he say anything we don't already know or was it the latest press conference about signing some players for the first 11 now we've bulked up the squad?

Hey all. Haven't posted in a while but I read the forum daily. I was reminiscing and thought I'd post. I was thinking about a time when a manager would have the balls to stand up to these players. In BRs shoes, I'd have said enough is enough long ago. Nip it in the bud so to speak. I'd point out to Suarez how the fans have stood by him, supporting him off field whilst we risk losing valuable points due to his absence. As it happens, we've done ok without him. I'd point out to him that he isn't an individual, he's a part of a team that must EARN the right to dine at footballs top tables. I'd point out to him that as of yet, he's achieved nothing at Liverpool FC, and that he never will if he decides to betray his friends, team mates and supporters by dismantling what we're building around him. I'd appeal to him as a person, to his morals and soul. There have been tournaments and holidays and things, but Suarez is contracted to us and I'd deal with it.

If that failed, and he turns out to be a little c*** without morals, I'd tell him so, and arrange to ship him out, ASAP. I'd take £25m and Alonso from Madrid.

Getting rid of a little tw*tt, having 25m to play with, and pairing Xabi and Stevie once more would ignite and unite us in perfect time for the new season.

BR's current stance and dealings are uninspiring to me. But lets see.

how do you know he hasn't done most of that already? you think he's been sat on his ***** doing nothing? really? apart from the take £25m plus Alonso bit I think BR has probably done a version of what you claim he hasn't got the balls to do.

and if he still refuses to toe the line then he most defo will be shipped out and the money re-invested.

as for the 'uninspiring' dealings... squad members. BR said so himself only yesterday.

do keep up.

The dealings so far are uninspiring - hopefully there will be improvement by the end of the month , we will see what happens on that front but so far it's been money not well spent.

As for the dealings with Suarez - I think so far they have let Suarez rabbit on. The club and BR made small statements about him and fully posted their stance to ensure the ball is in Suarez's court. Suarez's constant talking to the media has just showed what he is about - if he had just stated right at the start that he wanted to leave to play in CL for a bigger club than I might have had a bit more respect for his honesty but he has spun a web of ***** and he is stuck in the middle of it at the moment.

Of course I'm merely stating what I'd have done in his shoes. I've kept quiet all closed season and watched and waited. As Red7 or whoever is called has pointed out, we don't know what's happened behind closed doors. But neither do we know the truth of what Louis has said, other than the press spin on it, although there's been enough said to help us fit the pieces into place. And I'll repeat my end part too: we'll see. The main part of my post of course is that I'd have nipped this in the bud, ie not allow Suarez, the media, Madrid or whoever we point fingers at to drag a small number of interviews into a continuous, day to day saga.

As for the incoming players, I don't know anything of the two Spanish lads. Looking forwards to seeing them play. I think Toure will do well, and hopefully even better. Mignolet is a great signing as far as I'm concerned. I'd be sad to see Pepe leave, so I hope we keep him.

I, personally, think BR has done well and im excited to see the development continue this year. My main gripe with Rodgers is that I think he's a bit PC in his dealings. I'm not sure other managers and clubs would allow Suarez to so brazenly flirt with every club who'll lift him up the ladder so he dosen't have to climb. Me? I'd have stomped on it from the offset, even if I had to fly to him and kick his ar*se.

Benny:

We agree mostly, but my argument is that we could have grabbed (or at least attempted) onto his feet and pull his head out of the clouds much earlier. The club has allowed all the chatter, suggesting there might be some substance to the idea this has all been on the cards for a lot longer than it seems

There prob is some substance. And it's hard to keep them quiet these days.

Rodgers is still establishing himself as a manager at a legendary club. I sometimes wonder if he lacks confidence when it comes to dealing with "stars" and senior players, he does seem very keen to sign young players or players who have yet to achieve anything of note who may show him the respect that he might not (yet) receive from more seasoned and established players.

I think he's desperate to hang onto to Suarez who despite his flaws in personality is a massive talent, if he publicly (and maybe even privately) laid into Suarez I have no doubt that any chance Rodgers thinks we may have of retaining Suarez would be gone.

Does that massive talent get swamped by those personality flaws though ? Is BR better off cutting him away and using the funds to rebuild ?. If the fee is spent well by BR he could end up with a stronger squad without Suarez
