Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Its always difficult when you lose, especially at home, but I think BR was right to put out a weaker team for the Carling Cup.  The League and the UEFA cup are more important.

With such a small squad he had no option but to save his best players for Sundays game.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

the "weve only got one striker" excuse that i heard is terrible though

fact is he got rid of bellamy, kuyt, carroll, maxi.........ok maxi aint a striker but the guy has goals in him (and only replacing those 4 goal threats with borini)

our current team only suarez has goals in him these days

also this playing 2nd team lark....... i really cant see why professional footballers cant play 2 games in a week?

to suggest they are only capable of one 90 minute game in 7 days is ridiculous, they are at the peak of fitness, have the perfect dieticians helping them with everything, recovery experts

a tennis player could play 5 games in a week, 3 hours plus and still play at his best!!

i dont get it

Listen.

Both Bellamy and Maxi fit the style that Rodgers employs, Carroll and Kuyt don't.

But the fact of the matter is Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt all requested transfers. They wanted to leave, they were not ousted by Rodgers.

just that he never sent players out in t-shirts it was players decision. and no regrets with owners for getting rid of him so early as its there business basically. and defended suarez when quays asked about him diving. didnt sound good to be honest that if Suarez sees a nasty tackle coming then he has to try and avoid it and go to ground something like that.

We have to keep in mind this manager has been tasked with rebuliding Liverpool from scratch
whilst lowering running costs and working with a modest budget by Premiership standards.

The squad was stripped bare in the summer and we recruited 3 players for £30m when we
actually needed at least twice that number at a minimum.

You can achieve some success without money but its a hell of a long way around, and unless
FSG decide to start throwing a few bob to upgrade this team quicker its going to a slog for
us all.

I like Rodgers, and I think we have some terrific young players, and for me any blame flying
around should be aimed at the owners for not showing enough ambition or backing their
man in the summer.

I realise having a dig at FSG is never popular, but whilst I understand they do not want to
put the club in financial peril again its my opinion that owners need the passion and heart
to help their club out with their own money, and if that is not the case then they really
should not be involved in the game at all.

If you buy a club you owe it to yourself and the people to at least have some part of you
in love with the game enough to go beyond just running a club in on budget every year.
Surely there is responsibilty to have passion on some level otherwise I really do not see
why FSG bothered at all, well apart from the $$$$$  :;):

i dont go along with this theory that carroll doesnt suit rodgers philosophy. our patient passing style is great for possession stats but it allows defences to get set and 9 times out of 10 our passing moves just end up with us crossing the ball into a couple of 5 foot seven forwards anyway. we actually need a presence in there.
all this he`s not mobile enough for this pressing game is pie in the sky too, winning the ball back off defenders was one of carroll`s strengths. we are not doing anything as a team that carroll couldnt cope with.
he`d certainly give defenders more trouble than the likes of yesil, pacheco, morgan and borini who have all led the line for us this season.

i really dont get why loaning carroll out? he wasnt moaning about getting no first team footie, he was willing to fight

id like him on the bench as an option at the moment for sure, even starting the right games with suarez wide attacking left

my only trouble with brendan is he seems to one dimensional in his ways. Like how many managers would of dismissed Caroll as soon as he arrived. his problem at swansea was the same played attractive football but werent clynical enough. Now he buys Borini its quite obvious hes a goal poacher feeding off scraps makes great runs behind the last line of defence. so all im saying is wouldnt it be bettter to have both systems 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 a plan B as such. Hate it when people say its outdated 4-4-2 well it isnt when ur behind with ten minutes to go for fecksake.

Yes but one of Carroll's weaknesses was constantly being in the wrong place at the wrong time! He is NOT a good striker and never will be. All you guys thinking that if he was with us now we'd be scoring for fun are delusional, do you not remember how fecking awfull he was for us last season??
In Jan we'l bring in a good striker, I'm sure of that and then we'll start climbing the table rapidly. I am seeing improvement all the time but the next step is to get everyone in the midfield scoring more goals and it sounds like Brendan is well aware of that and I hope it's something that's being worked on.

Exactly couldnt agree more. Its like he wont change systems because it will prove his philosophy isnt working. You need a plan B for fecksake.
