£6m bid received for ‘Arby’ thumbnail

Liverpool have received a £6million bid for Alvaro Arbeloa according to The People. Alvaro Arbeloa is planning to return to Spain citing personal reasons.

The Spaniard arrived at Anfield from Deportivo La Coruna in January 2007 for £2.6 million having to man-mark Lionel Messi in his first game. He has since given Steve Finnan stiff competition for a spot at right-back.

6 million would still not be a bad offer i reckon and its still a decent profit of over 4 million for a player who is a stop gap at best for a team that should be challenging for the title , i think finnan is far more experienced and better defensively that arbeloa and i've also read that we are interested in rafinha again as we may lose arbeloa , whom is a better player than arbeloa .

I'd be interested to know how many Spanish players have come and gone, and how many cited homesickness, personal reasons etc as the reason for leaving. Arbeloa wouldn't be the first nor last

Only 3 Spanish (Garcia, Barragan and now Arbeloa) as far as I can remember, but quite a few foreign youngsters have found it hard to adapt. I suppose Kromkamp was the best known of the rest.

I reckon 6 million is too low for such a versatile player and also going by the current market trends. I'd say that 8 would be closer to the mark. But if he really wants to go home a 3.4 million profit margin is probably not too little in the greater scheme of things. If he does go, then I reckon we'll regret it. Outside of Torres and Reina, I reckon he's the 3rd best performing Spaniard we'd signed..... barring Xabi's loss of form of course.

8M would be acceptable.

Replace him with Micah Richards.

Don't be so sure.

I'm sure Micah doesn't want to waste his life at Manchester Shytty.

As has been pointed out in here already Carra can do a job at RB better than anyone else in the current squad.
If Agger is back fit he plays, Skrtel is more than good enough from what I've seen.

That would leave Sami, Degan, Darby, Finnan as cover for the defence.

I guess that depends on what kind of right back you're looking for. Carra rarely ever crossed the halfway line to any effect when he played RB. Used to drive me mad and I called him a kunt on more than one occasion, felt the fella had to put in a visa application before he would venture into the other teams territory. Defensively sound as a pound but if you're looking for a RB to contribute to our attack (which I'm assuming Rafa wants) forget Carra at RB. Not surprising his reputation increased tenfold when he was moved into a purely defensive CB role.

I think £6m would be a fantastic price, £8m would be an astronomical.

Arbeloa has given nothing but 100% when in an LFC strip. If he has genuine "personal issues" then he'd go with my blessing. £6m is a good deal for a player who has improved during his time at LFC. £6m is also a decent price for a Spanish International.

Since we're on a "you can quote me on that" day, we won't get 6 million for him. If we could sell to an English club then maybe, just maybe. But to a Spanish club, no more than 3.5 million pounds, and you can etc etc.

6 million sounds about right - a decent profit on a decent player. anything over that is going a bit over the top IMO, he's good and he's versatile but he's not an 8 million pound right back, left back or centre back.

i don't know what benitez is going to do about the right back slot. my guess is that he'll use both finnan and degen, with finnan getting a few more games than degen. carra at right back gives us nothing going forward and the rafinha rumours looks nothing more than the press with an easy story. we're losing a right back, there's one for sale we've had a little look at before and 'hey presto' according to the press we're about to buy him.
