Stevie is playing like most players is age in a world cup year. Shiiite!!

he's 30 shortly, how many more wonder years are we gonna get. Let me put it this way if we were offered 70m for stevie and we can keep torres and re-invest would youtake it?

I'd love to see him improve his attitude of late. I really think that has a lot to do with knowing deep down that there are players around him just not good enough to win things.

70 million for Gerrard, we keep Torres and get to spend the full 70 mil on players? Tempting but not gonna happen. I think you will find the 140 mil reportedly being offered is 100 for Torres and 40 for Stevie not 70 each. And we all know the yanks would pocket a fair chunk of the cash.

Yes, I kinda guessed the big fish in the fish and chip supper would be Torres, it was my way of saying that we wouldn't sell Torres but would take a huge chunk of citeh cash for an ageing Gerrard who's not quite the superhero, blood and guts boys own superstar some on here make him out to be.

£140m for Torres and even Rafa would have enough bites at the cherry replacing him for £25m-£30m a shot. £140m the pair and a good manager could replace both with money to spare, Rafa would probably end up trying to bargain Barry in to the deal and we'd end up effectively paying £30m for him

I think you guys are making a rather big mistake in assuming Torres is as loyal to us at Stevie has been. Torres is an ambitious young man, nothing wrong with that btw, and if he doesn't think he will win things at Liverpool then he'll move on and I honestly can't say I blame him. Hopefully we get a top manager in the summer who can convince them all to stay and get the best out of them next season.

what price is this loyalty?

let's not be naive - would he still be with us without his monster contract?

The World Cup may well be on Gerrard's mind but he's done too much for this club to start having a go at him just because he isn't 'there' every game. He's carried the club for long enough now that it's about time someone else, including the manager, did their bit, and recognised the shortcomings in what they're doing.

What annoys me the most is there seems to be a defeatist attitude running through the team this season where we seem to think that we're already beaten. It's been almost constant since the start of the season. If we'd actually played with the attitude of last year, never mind the personnel, we'd be up there, fourth place would only be achievable with a massive loss of form rather than being all we can aim at if we get our act together.

have to agree with you mic there does seem to be this attitude running through the players at the moment that were are going to get beat, even though we have been a little better over the last few games there still seems to be no confidence in the players and the longer we stutter along the worse it will get...

that is my fear if we do not start getting some results together and get that confidence up we will struggle to get that 4th spot.

if however we can get a string of games together where we win and win well ( i'm hoping so now torres is back ) i think we will get 4th place and start to get that confidence flowing as it was last year

gerrard has been a little below par on occasions this season but i believe someone else has said it, he is getting p*ssed off with having to do ALL the hard work and getting very little help from many others around him, with torres coming back lets hope they can click and get things running again

GERRARD WANTS FOUR NEW PLAYERS

Steven Gerrard claims Liverpool need "three or four quality players" to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The Reds lifted themselves back into sixth place with a 3-0 victory over West Ham on Monday night but remain 18 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Gerrard does not believe Rafa Benitez' squad needs an overhaul, but that quality players are needed to close that gap again.

"There are teams that have grown significantly in recent times, like Chelsea. In addition, Manchester United have been too strong [for us] for many years," Gerrard is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"Last year we came close to beating them but it is very difficult to overcome such a powerful team.

"Everyone knows that we must learn from this season. Some players have said we need a stronger squad and the key is to have better players and improve. I do not believe in profound changes or a revolution. Three or four quality players should be enough but more quality than quantity.

"The Premier League is the food of this club. We haven't won it for such a long time and the crowd demand it.

"They want us to win this more than any other competition. We must continue to fight for this, hopefully finishing fourth this season and having a real go next season.

"After finishing second last year we started this season with the idea of winning the league and the Champions League.

"After a series of bad results we had to change targets. Now the fans are desperate for us to win the Europa League. It's the only trophy left for us to fight for and we want to win it."

They key to all of this is new owners.

If we can get new owners in before the transfer window opens then I reckon we may have the budget to bring in the quality players that we need.

If H+G are still here then we have no chance.

I am still hopeful they will both stay although with Torres having yet another summer of football with the world cup instead of resting, i worry about his ftness for next season.

So there is no significance in the fact that he made every effort to ensure he was the last LFC player off the park today then??

Bye bye Stevie. It's been good.
