Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

you cant say "regardless of who that player is" as some players simply are too vital to the dressing room and synonymous with the club. like Maldini to Milan, Raul to RM, Cantona to ManU, etc.

if it was someone like Babel who has been poor and doesnt really put in much effort then of course there will be seeds of doubt regards to the credibility of Babel's comments. however, its Gerrard here, Mr Liverpool, someone who has so much passion for success with the club so when he is frustrated or when he voices out in dissent, it does carry alot more weight.

so all in all, i feel it is difficult to answer a fixed question like that cause it really does depend on who the player is.

So it's not about the team but a particular individual in the team....

read JD's question properly SS,

The club hire the manager, the manager is in charge of the players, who should the club back if there is a dispute with a player regardless of who that player is.

both the manager and player are individuals who are in the club. so your point is?

Just imagine for a minute you are Steven Gerrard.  You are about to be 30 years old.  You are one of the best footballers in the world.  You've seen three world class player join you in the past 5 years.  You see not a single soul in the club that could capably fill in for yourself or the other world class striker yo've been joined with.  You've seen the other world class player alienated by the manager and sold on (don't even try to debate this, Alonso said recently that the Barry fiasco was why he left).  You've got 3 maybe 4 years left in your career.  You don't have time for another 5 year plan.  Would you moan.  You're damn right you would.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Mickey Quinn has commented on Gerrard this morning, stating that the player isn't injured but had been suspended by the manager after a bust up at half time in the Reading game. If this is true then I would think he will lose the captains armband when played again.

Women and Children, make way for the Captain

So Stevie wants out.. well that’s nothing new, Isn’t this the local hero who moaned and groaned through 2005 about whether he should leave for Chelsea? He wanted to win things so he could decorate his trophy cabinet, and he wanted to take the easy option by joining a club which bought success by paying top dollar for the best players in Europe. Obviously that was more attractive than staying and fighting for the home town club which was so good to him – only the lucky CL win and a huge payrise kept him at Anfield… not a sense of loyalty.

Since 2005 he has continued in his self serving selfish ways; he wouldn’t play on the right because he wanted to be the main man in the middle. Then when Torres came he made sure he was moved up front to play alongside him so that Torres wouldn’t get all the glory.

When Stevie is sitting down with his agent he should remember one fact before he buys his new piggy bank. On Christmas day 2008 we were top of the league. A couple of days later we thrashed Newcastle 5 – 0. Things never looked so good. That evening Stevie got himself arrested after a pub brawl. Liverpool drew the next three league games against Stoke, Everton and Wigan dropping 6 points and moving from 1st to 3rd in the process. Liverpool FC stood by him and supported him but the damage was done. We lost the league by two points.

This season has been poor to say the least but in fairness we’ve had more than our share of bad luck. Instead of inspiring confidence around him, Stevie is going to sulk again. He wants out and he doesn’t care what that does to the club. What does it say to the squad players if Gerrard wants to abandon ship? Why would Mascherano or Torres stay on board?

You can say what you like about Gary Neville but you have to respect him for what he is – a club stalwart – absolutely committed and loyal to his club. Would he start crying if things were tough for United? No he wouldn’t. He would say “I’m staying, I’m in it for the long haul, I’m going to work my butt of to get us out of this”.

Loyalty is not pocketing 150k a week for a club which is riding high domestically and internationally like we were for the past few seasons. Loyalty is putting a bigger effort in when the going is tough not destabilising the club with thoughts of leaving.

In the 2010/11 season the Kop will sing as it always does. Whether Stevie plays at Anfield for us or someone else will be the measure of the man. What do you want the kop to sing Stevie? “When you walk through the storm, hold your head up high” or “You left me, just when I needed you most” The choice is yours.. Liverpool Legend or spoiled brat.

It's a worry if Mickey Quinn is talking about this on Talksport. Don't think he would deliberately bad mouth the club, Rafa and Gerrard without there being some truth in it.

That is a great first post. And if any team is willing to offer 30Mil for him id say take it. He has given enough to this club so if he want's to go we should let him. Maybe we need to think about building a team around him.

We lost Owen and won the Champions League. Maybe we will lose Gerrard and win the league the following season.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Really wouldn't be surprised if Gerrard left in the summer, and who blames him, he is turning 30 and has not enough years in him, its a shame that he might not win a premier league medal with the team he loves.
