Truth is all managers go thru horrible periods like this every once in a while; in Germany Bayern just did...But the challenge is what to do to snap a vicious circle of poor form, low confidence and injuries. In our case we have a manager who is living on hope; hope the luck turns at some point..

Footballers may not be the smartest d1ck out there, but they can smell fear in a team from a mile away! And we are playing with fear!

All PL teams know to play Liverpool now u put pressure on the defence to breakup the passing game and force them into long balls; then in attack all they need do is punt the ball into our penalty area...

The manager is compounding it by his safety first approach. The influence of Alonso is often overstated, but the system relied heavily on his ball holding and passing game, which enabled Gerrard play behind Torres. Without those qualities, a continued reliance on the system with Lucas and Masch amounts to living in hope- a false hope!

The continued use of Lucas, who has been playing well, in this same system is a safety first decision, and now Dossena or Aurelio in LM, in turn reinforces this fear...The team is one long ball away from conceding in nearly every game played this season!

Yet the Manager persists in the same system, the same tactics, and the same fvcking subs in the 60min mark!

For all the talk about Aquilani's injury and his being on the bench, little attention has been paid to the matter of his style and whether that can jell with the current system, seeing how it seems written in stone for Rafa..
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

What is frustrating is seeing players like Johnson, Lucas, Dossenea, Babble, and whoever else not progress under Rafa.  Dossena was the first choice left back for Italy!!!! Our players don't seem to get better and actually regress in many cases.  Lucas - Player of the Year in Brazil?  Can we find a manager who will improve the players we have?  Because with the financials the way they are we seem fated to not make a lot of noise in the transfer market.

I feckin hate this old chestnut 'who would do a better job given the circumstances'. FFs anyone who could inspire and motivate their players for starters.

I agree we think these players are bad but under another manager I think they could become something who knows could it be Rafa is holding them back as players ?

If so why?

The simple answer is yes.

I doubt any other manager would play such a defensive midfield four against portsmouth

If the lucas - mash partnership isn't working I'd expect a manager to see that and change it

Does an off form kuyt really need to play every minute of every game?
- I doubt many other managers would stick with kuyt so much.

I would take Laurent Blanc in a heartbeat.  He has taken cast offs and some young talent and built a winner.  Attractive style of play, few goal conceded.  I don't know if its him or Bordeaux's scouting but it seems light year's ahead of our as far as assessing talent.

Yeah the same team that came second last season are now total sh!te.

No they are not, we have lost a couple of key players in Sami Xabi and Arbeloa.
But Johnson is a better player than Arbeloa iuf we had played Gerrard centre midfield throughout this season then we would have been ok.
Rafa got us into this mess by making mistakes from the start of the season, and he has shown that he is unable to get us out of it.

Another manager without making any signings could do a hell of a lot better i am certain of that.

Sami & Arbeloa is immense to our defence by the looks of this season. Johnson maybe great going forward but defensively Arbeloa looks more like the one you can rely on. This season we change our full backs with Johnson & Insua and look at the amount of goals we conceded. I just think that the defence is just not as tight as previous because we chose to use more attacking full backs and there are not able to track back or not defensively sound in their marking/tackling, tend to follow the player with the ball and not seeing opposition players moving into empty areas.
