Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Rafa Benitez has been speaking to the press. "Are you the best man for the job?" the Liverpool boss was asked, prompting the Spaniard to remark:
"When you walk through a storm, you have to hold your head up high."

feckin legend!
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

So much for someone stating he only cares about himslef and doesnt love the club - that statement from him just shows me he understands fully .

Everyone knows he loves this club, I remember the first time I realised he loves this club. Remember v Porto at Anfield when all this Klinsmann sh!te was ripe, it showed the players going down the tunnel onto the pitch, Rafa was last, the touched the 'This is Anfield' sign with both hands longingly, really felt for him then. For me he showed then his hearts at this club and it still is

...back in the autumn of 1981 when a dysfunctioning Liverpool side – packed to the rafters with (what we look back at) quality players endured a thoroughly miserable spell spanning two seasons.  Bob Paisley wasn’t sacked and went on to win the title that season and the following season.

That was some turnaround - 7/8/9 pts behind by late November. The main difference this time round is that the top teams aren't anything as liable to slip up. If one does, the other will probably be there.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Go to a game and say we are a company and see what happens .

mate i got to lots of games and and i do say it and they allknow it and it is all down to the owners and thats why we all hate it.

in todays world i can not see how we can go back to the old ways, there is no way we could make the money without being run as a company.

once you have gone down that road theres not getting off it, sad to say.

you get me so wrong, why do you think i am so unhappy that Rafa's main coal from day one at being at the club is the CL.

And as has been suggest - the game has moved since then - you yourself have said its a company and its about the money - Its not just about the League anymore - the CL is just as important - maybe even more important when it comes to trying to get the best players in the world - One of the reasons Torres came to us - Because he wanted CL football .

As for it being Rafas main goal - maybe becuase he is level headed enough to realise that the players he has had in the past werent good enough to win the league but had a great chance to win the CL - so could attack the CL while also ensuring we stay in the Top 4 - that way it enables him to get more money for players and to be able to attract the best players . Last year we went at both for the first time .

Im sorry but it is impossible now to just concentrate on the league .

so he took 67 players to our club and still did not think they could win the pem but only the CL......if that as the case he should have been sacked a long time ago.

no due to a string of bad buys and sales he hastaken the team apart and left us weak we our best players are not fit.

I dont doubt rafa's on the pitch tactics but 85% of his signings are dredful. Ngog, voronin etc. He should of been buying 4-5 quality 10 mil signings but instead he buys 20 absolute useless **** who dont even look prem worthy.

Our youth system is ok at best and our youth scouts look to be on crack. AC Milan can find gems like Pato, Madrid find players like Marcello, even Atletico find Aguero and who do we find? Plessis, Mark Gonzarlez and its not like were poor. We seem to be the only big club in the World who cant find any decent younsters and dont even bother bringing up Lucus. He's not a success story yet.
